The Eels fastest try world record (11 seconds set by Kirisome Auva’a for the Parramatta Eels against the Brisbane Broncos in 2017) has been broken. #bugger

‘Sluggish’ Parramatta Eels take huge risk on Mitchell Moses deal

Parramatta’s delay in signing halfback Mitchell Moses is confusing.

Moses produced one of the best games of his career to steer the Eels to victory over the Canberra Raiders on Saturday night yet he remains a free agent.

This is at a time when the likes of the Broncos and Cowboys are desperate to sign a quality halfback.

The Eels are taking a huge risk by being so sluggish in negotiations.

We tried to contact Eels chief executive Jim Sarantinos for an explanation.

The message came back that he was on a day off.

Moses’ form this season has been far more consistent than in previous years.

He is now 26 with 155 NRL games. This is at an age when most good halfbacks reach their full potential.

There is no question Moses wants to stay at Parramatta.

Parramatta don’t have a great record in negotiations with their high profile players.

The Clint Gutherson negotiations two years ago got out of hand and dragged out bitterly in the media for months.

They cannot afford it to happen again, not when the team is travelling so smoothly.

FWIW, there is a social media rumour doing the rounds that Moses is being heavily courted by Souths to replace Reynolds, and he’s already had numerous meetings with Blake Solly.

take it with a grain of salt as you would any rumour however.

They couldn’t offer Reynolds more than a year but are chasing a halfback from another club who would want a 3 year deal minimum???? Seems legit.

We don’t re-sign him and he signs for $1m+ elsewhere, and we are shit club.

We re-sign him for $1m+ and he remains hot n cold and we are a shit club.

This is Parramatta.

One of the commentators said they couldn't give Reynolds more than a year cos they were saving cap space for Cody who is off contact at the end of next year

Maybe it they give it to Moses, they'll gamble losing Cody

And they have a few guns coming through the ranks who will be ready in 18 months.

Talk about Slothfield making stuff up, it’s been in other media that Moses has been offered a 2/3 year extension to his current deal. It’s the usual negotiation tactic from his manager, get with some nuffy in the press and blow it into a story.

When Storm or Roosters have this situation (see Crichton and others) , they can’t cream themselves about how sensible the said club is by not paying overs.

Eels stuff sells media and clicks, the sun comes up, nothing changes.
