I have such a soft spot for the area in and around our stadium. Always has me feeling all warm and fuzzy. It will be sad to see the old girl go but the new stadium will be a cracker.

Hopefully, whatever happens, the new stadium is cutting edge and will provide facilities that last longer than 30 years. This is the challenge for the state govt. Current stadium, however many memories it holds, is useless and beyond its use by date.

FoxSport rate our pack as 13th best:

13. Eels

Starting pack: Junior Paulo, Nathan Peats, Tim Mannah, Manu Ma’u, Beau Scott, Anthony Watmough

Anthony Watmough will be hoping for happier returns in 2016.

Strengths: Plenty of menace in the back-row with Manu Ma’u and Beau Scott accompanied onto the field by a health warning for opponents.

Nathan Peats’ spark around the ruck should only grow brighter under the reshaped interchange laws, while Danny Wicks was impressive in his first NRL season in some time last year.

Weaknesses: Anthony Watmough’s returns during an injury plagued 2015 were well below expectations, and the Eels can’t afford to have him on one leg again.

Their back-up hooking options for Peats — an issue for the past two years — still don’t look to be remedied and their front-row stocks also look a tad skinny.

While I reckon we should be rated at least around 8th/9th, do these journo's have any idea? to even suggest we have a depth problem at hooker really indicates they have no idea and haven't even looked at our squad!!

The chairman sent an email to members clarifying some of the bullshit reported yesterday.

Gus also said on Twitter last night that the figures reported were not accurate.

How do these journalists have jobs?

you pretty much answered your own question...

we make the media so much money because we're one of the few clubs people give a shit about...Manly's players can go out cause a mass murder in the peninsular and we'd still get smashed by those merkins simply because of who we are and who we represent.

Our own media dept is stepping up to the plate, go to the parraeels.com.au and look at the inner sanctum video from 9s.

Encapsulates what BA brings to the table :)

I just watched parts 1 & 2, it was great.

BA will have the boys firing for the start and during the season.

"lets go play some Parra footy"

Loved the interaction between BA and Pauli Pauli at the conclusion of the Knights V Eels 9s match.
Even players released to other clubs love BA.
Great videos.

It's hard to rate forward packs when rules have changed that will change the way forward packs have to play. Not just the interchange but the increase in game-time as the shotclocks have been added.

Our backup hooking options haven't been remedied?

We have Degois, Pritchard and King on the books. I know they aren't big names but they are supposed to be BACKUPS!
How many clubs have that kind of depth at hooker?

f**king imbeciles.

I thought the same thing.

I have a feeling he'll be back after his contract is up.

I'm sure BA said to him"go up there get some first grade under your belt because your chances of getting a start at Parra is limited for the next couple of years, the knights are paying your contract for this season, helps the club out with the cap, see you in a couple of years"

What a great club man Pauli is.

Disclaimer: conversation may never of actually happened.

And Nelson.

Our back ups (even if we discount Degois career games) have more NRL experience then Manly's only two options ( which is where I think they f**ked up with their offseason signings)

Manly really couldn't afford many singings, after DCE took them to the cleaners with his new contract....

5 — EELS

Spine: Nathan Peats, Corey Norman, Kieran Foran, Michael Gordon

Strengths: The two halves hold the key to Parramatta’s fate in 2016. Norman has been a solid player for many years and is set to thrive alongside the class of Foran.

We saw in the Auckland Nines just how creative and dangerous Norman can be with ball in hand.

Foran’s role will change slightly from the player he was at Manly, but these two players have the potential to lead the Eels to a top eight berth.

Weaknesses: Four very good individual players will need to gel quickly for the Eels to get the most out of their roster.

Foran and Gordon are new to the club but with their experience, getting on the same page shouldn’t be a problem.

Fifth best only after broncos, warriors, cowboys and storm. That's pretty good, when was the last time we were rated so highly in the spine?

Could this be "The Year of the Eel"?

EDE_05-07-2013_EGN_06_GRA250113AHAustDayAward03_fct1026x769x47.0_ct620x465.jpg

FOLLOWING his beloved Parramatta Eels winning their first competition trophy in 30 years, Clarence Valley mayor Richie Williamson has labelled 2016 'The Year of the Eel'.

The self-appointed president of the Clarence Valley Chapter of the Parramatta Eels Supporters Club said the early season success by his side at the Auckland Nines competition has taken the sting away from their 2009 grand final loss.

"We were cheated out of the premiership in 2009 by the stinking mob from Melbourne," Cr Williamson said. "I am positive if it had have been an even playing field that year the Eels would have come out as premiers - but we can't dwell on the past, we must look forward a very rosy future."

While the mayor admits it is still early days with the season kick off still about three weeks away, he said history acts as proof that the Eels will succeed.

"I know that you can't win the Melbourne Cup in the first 100 metres," he said. "That is the same in the NRL, but every winner of the Auckland Nines has won the NRL Premiership about the same time.

"This is a strong start to a promising season. Corey Norman was outstanding at the weekend and I think our coach [Brad Arthur] has got the team focused and has signed well in the off-season.

"My hope is the boardroom is a boardroom that is united - that certainly has not been the case in recent years."

The local mayor, who has been a Parramatta tragic for as long as he can remember, expects his side to play finals footy.

"I was only speaking with the Vice-President of the Clarence Valley chapter of the Eels supporters, Craig 'Pup' Pereira the other day about our chances this season," Williamson said.

"I think we will definitely finish in the top eight - there is no doubt about that and at the ripe old odds of $15 to win the premiership, if I was a betting man I know where I would put my last tenner.

"Without going off early this will be our year."
