Spoke to Fogarty at a function when he was with the club, basically his family stayed up on the Gold Coast and he was very homesick. Got the sense that was the reason he went back, guess he got an NRL spot at the Titans and then was able to move on better top 30 money to Canberra with the family.

On another note, how the f**k did we go from this in 2017 with a salary cap of $7 million:
1. Gutho/French
6. Norman/Gutho/Smith
7. Moses/Robson/Norman
9. De Gois/King/Pritchard/Robson/Smith
14. Smith/King/Robson/Pritchard

To this in 2022 with a salary cap of $9.1 million:
1. Gutho/Perham
6. Brown/Arthur/Gutho/Perham
7. Moses/Arthur
9. Mahoney/Rein/Arthur
14. Arthur

Surely Gutho/Brown/Moses/Mahoney/Rein/Arthur/Perham, would cost considerably less (given the increase in salary cap) than Gutho/Norman/Moses/De Gois/French/Smith/Robson/King/Pritchard/Fogarty?

Particularly given that we still had Semi, Jenko, and Beau Scott in the team in 2017.
We've prioritised having a strong forward pack but it seems to have come at the expense of depth across the spine.

What is the go with players who move to Sydney by themselves, like Papali'i, Perham, Brown, Mahoney, Fogarty, Greig, etc. (Andrew Davey is another who springs to mind but not sure if he had a family)? Can they club house them and it not be included in the cap? Although I guess if you put them all in a share house the combined portion of their rent towards the cap would be a pretty small percentage.

That does appear the case. I'd even argue depth across the entire squad. We basically have 15 players the coaching staff are comfortable putting on the field when the game matters, although Simonsson, Dunster and Stone can probably be added to that list as backups if needed. I'm still lost with the Cartwright and Brown situation.

Being brutally honest fogarty is just slightly better goal kicking version of Luke Kelly.

So I don't know what the concern is about his departure.

After I said that he will tear us shreds now on Friday and we will probs make him look like Nathan cleary out there.

I think I heard that it goes onto the Cap if the club funds it or provides the accomodation. I know the PLC owns some flats in O'Connell St near the Leagues Club that players have "rented" in the past with their families.

Not if we throw enough coins at him.

We signed Fogarty just after he won the QRL player of the year playing half back for Burleigh Bears, and whilst we had Will Smith and Co they were pretty much all back ups.

I reckon we expected Fogarty to turn out better than he did, then the opportunity came to sign Mitch.

The rest is history.

He’s since proven he’s decent but what was he showing in 2017? Sounds like he wasn’t in a great place and wanted to go home. Maybe that would have been different if he found himself in the position that Arthur does now.
Arthur has proven this season you don’t have to show much to get a run in first grade, as long as your last name is Arthur
