Two, because merkins expect them to make 40 tackles, be pin point accurate with passing, hit 40/20s and dart through the ruck like a beach sprinter. We got one of them ?

It depends how much defensive work they're expected to do. If we're going to keep dropping the ball this year then the answer to that question is heaps. After a few rounds it was obvious one hooker wouldn't be enough. Against the Dogs Hands only made 36 tackles in 80 minutes, for an 80% effectiveness rate, against a fairly poor attacking side. Apart from Hopgood our middles just don't work hard enough in defence to get away with only one hooker.

It was actually obvious to most before Round 1, given the age (decline) and previous injury rate of our sole chosen dummy half. Not to mention that late last year (with Mahoney) other teams had worked out they could take us on up the middle and reap the rewards as the match progresses, plus factoring in the age (decline) of our two starting middle props - and lack of medium term planning by our recruitment/retention committee.
