Eels in the media

It was Luke Grant, the irony is that he is a mad Roosters supporter and was employed as ground announcer for 15 years. Of course the media never, ever question that club on anything, coupled with Hadleys position on anything Parra, not surprised.

Hadley (via whoever was subbing for him on his show) was at it again yesterday. Campaigning against us getting a sponsorship from Council.

Decent coin what would the sponsorship entail though. Would it be a jersey one or just a general sponsorship for the club.

I certainly have noticed a lot more recently the hills buses in the hills area have the Eels logo on it with the chemist warehouse sponsor & some buses even have Gutho on it.

Parramatta City Council being a sponsor is no different than more broadly NSW Gov (via Sydney.com) throwing coin at the Australian Open golf or Wicked ! at the Star Casino. Parramatta CBD just about are ready to rock n roll and want to be a destination precinct.

What a low life arse. All councils, as do Governments, have a budget for marketing and promotion. The Parra council want to spend it on the biggest and most popular entity in their own backyard which is the Parramatta Eels. Seems very logical to me, the biggest bang for your buck.

Typical though, we get a decent partnership that is so perfect and synergistic to both parties and some old angry disc jockey's that want to make themselves relevant to the old blue rinse brigade beat up enough hysteria that may scuttle the deal.

Wouldn't happen to the Roosters.

Besides other things included, bottom back of jersey.

I was walking my daughter home from school yesterday and she saw a bus on Victoria Rd. It had an advertisement for Fox Sports (or Kayo…I don’t know) and the picture was Waqa Blake running through the tackle of a couple of Broncos players.

My daughter asked “Is that the footy?”
I said “Yeah, do you know what team that is?”

“The Eels?”
“Yeah”
“Is he going to score a try?”
“No. Probably not.”

Isn’t that advertising rather than sponsorship?

Done deal. F**k you Hadley.

The logo of Parramatta Council will adorn the jerseys of Parramatta Eels players in a $2.4 million sponsorship deal that has been derided by its mayor as an unwise use of ratepayer funds.

A late-night closed council meeting on Monday voted to strike a three-year partnership with the powerhouse NRL club for advertising and community sports clinics. A report given to councillors indicated the total cost of the three-year agreement would be about $2.47 million – $383,500 in the first year.

There’s been a lot money invested in the Parramatta. square and surrounds, hotel, restaurants, cafes, clubs , eateries and as a destination point, there would be considerable value added with visitors so in sense , visiting teams, out of towners etc may well use the opportunity to stay, using the major sporting club in the area as an attraction.

The rah rahs use visitors spend as their major reason for being an ongoing sporting proposition. Also guess the Council could use a CommBank box as a useful tool in say negotiations.

You do realise if the Roosters or Dogs had council support, the media would be rejoicing and saying what a smart resource. Uncle Nick or Gus would be held up as geniuses.

I can understand why people might be miffed if their council decided to throw a few million at a footy team they give zero f**ks about.

I know my council was crying poor a few years back - gonna slash all the spending on everything unless they increased rates by 20% .... no one really had a choice, they just did it .... if they then turned and said they were gonna throw a few million at the Dragons I'd likely think they are a pack of merkins
