What if we f**k him off after the Train and Trial?
Well he has a contract so we would have to negotiate a payout.

Are you assuming train and trial means you can cut the merkin at any time? I don’t think that’s what it means these days. I think it’s just how they refer to full time players outside the top 30. I guess they can cut them any time and the (full) payout doesn’t count under the salary cap, but in Samrani’s case the second year’s payout would count against the cap.

Source? You yourself just recently said you weren't sure what is going on about his contract, whether Samrani is in the 30 in 2026 - or anything really.
I’m sure the club announced his signing in the same announcement as a couple of other top 30 players. Not a word about train and trial, so I’m going off the official information. However the player doesn’t have an official profile on the club’s site, so nothing is certain.

I’m with Bart here. Just because any player is cut and paid out, doesn’t automatically mean it goes against salary cap. I’m surprised you said it Pou

how else would it be allocated ?
The NRL salary cap rules aren’t as tight as you’d expect. The base is clubs have to have 30 registered NRL players and can’t spend more than $X overall for them to be in their NRL squad. There’s further rules around minimum wage and other things.
What happens if the payout is less than the minimum wage? The payout is not required to be included against salary cap, however nor then can that player be included in the squad (meaning club needs to pay another player on top of the payout they giving old player).
Doesn’t even need payout to be below minimum wage in theory, however again club needs to fill spot on top of paying the payout, and also the NRL as essentially the paymasters via grant money usually take a dim view of it and can arbitrarily decide which cap cops what amount.

And it's only a top 24 on 1 November, a top 28 in February before Round 1, and a top 30 for 30 June.

So if someone is signed up on train and trial but then cut/paid out (presumably minimally) in November, they may not even come into salary cap calculations at all.
