Eels may look to Rudder for direction

Parramatta has earmarked former Newcastle utility Sean Rudder as a possible playmaking option if they are unsuccessful in luring Brett Finch to the NRL club next season.
Rudder, who partnered Andrew Johns at the scrumbase during the Knights' 2001 premiership victory, is hoping to re-establish himself in the NRL when his contract with Super League club Les Catalans expires at the end of the season.
The Eels are looking for a five-eighth after the loss of Wests Tigers-bound utility John Morris next season, with Finch their prime target after the Sydney Roosters gave him permission to negotiate with rival clubs.
However, Rudder, is seen as a possible fallback option due to his experience and utility value.
"He's a five-eighth, lock, centre, can play hooker, a bit of back row," said former teammate and manager Tony Butterfield.
"He's the sort of guy that could do the job for you in a number of positions.
"He's a player with a 138 NRL games and 70-odd Super League games under his belt.
"Rudds is a tough bugger, he's virtually never been injured in all his time."
Rudder's former club, Newcastle, has expressed interest in the 27-year-old, as have St George, Penrith, South Sydney and the Roosters.
Meanwhile, Wests Tigers are closing in on the signature of Richard Villasanti after tabling the former Kangaroos prop a two-year deal.
"He was on that Kangaroo tour not that long ago and a player doesn't lose it just like that," Tigers recruitment manager Warren McDonnell said.
"We're looking for him to step up again and maybe step back up into rep football.
"That would be something we'd be aiming at.
"He's spent a bit of time at Balmain before, his wife's family comes from the area.
"It would be a good fit for both of us."
Villasanti has also received interest from English side Hull and current club Cronulla, although the Tigers are believed to have the inside running.

The Hagan effect has started already... only concerning thing is that we expressed interest....But then again we shouldnt be surprised.. its our management afterall

I think we should all say a little prayer for Parra tonight.
They are in for a tough three weeks or so of next season till they sack Hagan.

You can just see it now ..... next year when he is at Parra and announces his teams each week, after his usual copy and paste, the halves combo:

6. Lowrie
7. Rudder

Coach: Michael (Supercoach) Hagan

How painful will that be 4 Parra fans.. gotta have some pity for them.. because that halves combo wont be too far off if he has his way

Rudder is a good player. Remember that one bomb he did that got us into the GF? And remember that break that he did against the roosters in the 2002 semi finals when we had no joey, he almost turned the entire game for us!

A totally awesome player, i would gladly have him back.

BAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

Fitzgerald should get the chair for this. Hagan is going to drive 2 clubs into the ground and make a sh!tload of cash out of it!!!!!!

I don't mind Rudder as a player, remember it was Hagan who forced him to play at 5/8 and he did his best. But I have to agree that Hagan's ability coach and judge players ability is very dubious and in some ways I feel sorry for Parra, but I hope that Hagan's introduction also brings about the death of the EMPEROR because he has been instrumental in screwing Parra over

LMAO...one of the funniest things I've seen written on here in a while...goodbye Parra in 2007 you poor sods! And to think there is still a good 6 months of recruiting time to go before kick off next year, certainly the potential for some more shockers (hopefully none for us) during that time

He'd be OK as a backrower, he was always big enough.

But if hes a playmaker at Parra, Hages has finally lost it, if he every had it.

This 'Hagan going to Parra' thing dead set gets funnier by the day...

Sacry....pls do not let him come back here. He hasn't been able to get a run in the Les Catlans starting side.

Wasnt he playing for Singleton this time last year?

I don't know where the 70-odd Superleague games come from?! He played one year for Castleford and was cut, and now the current season with Les Catalans. Unless they play 40-45 games a season in England?

I always thought Rudder could have been a suitable replacement for Peden. A big backrower who can (by can I mean he has done it once or twice) throw a good ball and put in a grubber if needed.....

But, thats what we have Abes for now. No real need for us to look at him.
