Eels Members will be caught up in Carl’s Webb

NRL.com Thu, 28 Oct 2010 14:39:00

When the Parramatta Eels head back to pre-season training this Monday, there will be no one more excited than Carl Webb at Parramatta Stadium.

The Queensland prop is one of the Eels’ new recruits for season 2011 in a new-look side coached by Kiwi mentor Stephen Kearney.

Webb, 29, is feeling more refreshed than ever and is counting the days until he can play in front of a packed crowd at Parramatta Stadium, who will be on his side for once.

“Parramatta Stadium used to be a pretty unfriendly crowd to play in front of, but to play here in front of all the supporters is something I’m really excited about,” he says.

“One of the motivating factors in coming here was actually the huge supporter base, Eels fans are very passionate.”

The Eels have already passed the 4,000-Member mark after Memberships went on sale less than a month ago, but Webb is encouraging all Parramatta fans to show their support and join the Blue and Gold Army in 2011.

With more Members benefits than ever before, great prizes just for signing up (including Platinum Tickets to attend the 2010 ARIA Awards with two Eels stars and packages to suit every type of fan, a Parramatta Eels Membership is a great way to show your support for your club.

The former North Queensland Cowboy is one part of the 2011 squad looking to deliver a solid year for the Club’s Members.

“No one really likes pre-season training because it is the hardest part of the year, but it’s also one of the most important things. If you get a good pre-season in it sets the tone for the year, and that’s what we’re looking to do,” Webb says.

“I’m really excited to get started. It’s great to be at club with such a huge supporter base and who show their support every week.

“I’ve always respected the Parramatta Eels for their culture and history and I look forward to playing with some of today’s stars.”

“I was in North Queensland for five years and I really welcome the change. I’ve been looking forward to the change. It’s good to be back in a major city and I’m thrilled about playing under Steve Kearney.”

Does he realise that the Parra supporters also death ride their players?

If you stuff up once in your first game back or fail to crack the magical 100m mark, your head will be on the chopping block and the masses calling for you to go to Wenty.

What do you think Parra will get in round 2 at home against the Panthers if they lose against the Warriors first up?

If Webb can get to some kind of fitness, Mannah and Poore hold their form from last season. We could have a damm intimitating front row rotation. Due respect to Caylo, he didnt set the fear in the opposition, though his offloads were great in some games, but in return that wont be that a big issue if we have strong bend the line repetitive go forward plays

Eels by 13 over the Warriros

Cheers

Lol don't fans of all clubs do that ?

Can't wait to watch Webb and maitua, I think they have a lot to prove and I can't wait to see them in the blue and gold. I've really warmed up to both and I'm starting to feel that love for them that I feel for anyone that plays for parra !!!

 Pretty true isn't it?

I think by now we get the idea... fans have either got the emails "from" various players and it hasn't convinced them to renew, or we have renewed our Memberships already (but we're still receiving these desperate sounding emails!).

Are we to conclude at this stage that the renewals must be less than was hoped?

Personally I don't see the need to renew now. And I don't get why the club are pushing it so much in October. I'm not a family man, still single in my twenties and most in my case would probably rather wait until just before the season begins to renew, that way can work out with mates etc whether it's worth it and if it is rally a crew who'd be willing to do the same to get reserved seats. There's no real benefit for people renewing in October when the season doesn't start till March.

In my opinion I spoke to Ossie about the posting of emails and he said he didn't have a problem with it. Things like this and the last email we received about the promotion to win a date with a couple of our players to the Arias are best broadcast to as many people as possible and he agreed.
I thought it was a great effort by the memberships office to phone all of last years members as well. We may be struggling to get the numbers but they are certainly working hard to do all they can to get as many people as possible to renew.

Well, did you definitely speak to Ossie, or is that just your opinion?
