It could be that the eels hierarchy are enjoying this thread so much, they don’t want to ruin it by appointing a coach.

I am sympathetic to the enormous challenges they face having to actually do something…anything as it seems to be.

In my long and mostly forgettable life, I’ve always lived off the mantra that one should never get something done today that one can put off until tomorrow or indeed next week.

Any youngsters under 45 reading this, trust me.
The best advice I ever got was if you leave it to the last minute, it only takes a minute.

Maguire has proven he can take a well-resourced club to the promised land. If that's not us, does it even matter who the coach is?
If you compare the 2014 Souths premiership winning team to potentially our 2025 side they are somewhat similar. Solid halves, long standing fullback and their forwards I'd even say may be weaker if you take out Sam Burgess.

1 Greg Inglis
2 Alex Johnston
3 Dylan Walker
4 Kirisome Auva'a
5 Lote Tuqiri
6 Luke Keary
7 Adam Reynolds
8 George Burgess
21 Apisai Koroisau
10 Dave Tyrrell
11 Ben Te'o
12 John Sutton (c)
13 Sam Burgess

Interchange
14 Jason Clark
15 Kyle Turner
16 Chris McQueen
17 Thomas Burgess

Two or three years ago Arthur was coach of one of the more successful teams. There was nobody better available.
And that still seems to be the case young man.

At the very least, eels command should have had someone lined up to coach.

Instead, they wait for Baz to fail, although I get this uneasy sense he’s on the cusp of some good wins.

If we compared that starting 13 to our best 2025 13 based on who we have currently the only wins we have in head to head on paper would be

Lomax over Auva’a
RCG over Tyrell

maybe a struck match between Moses and Reynolds.

that souths team would put 40 on us
