According to the SMH, we're 30K away from getting Thomas Leulaui.

The Warriors have put a fee on the release of Thomas and apparently it's 50K however we've only put up 20K and according to Smith they've given them what they asked for, confused??...NZ still prefer he was released to England but negotiations are still in progress.

How I see it!!.....The initial asking price was 20K when he was first allowed to speak to us but because the Warriors have become hell bent in seeing him go to England they've increased their asking price to sign with us.

at this stage, we may have a decision by about this time 2008!!  ...do we just get on with life and forget about him? or do we persue playing hard ball for his services?

your thoughts?

I was really really hesitint at first but realising his only 19 and playing international footy made me think he could be something special. But I say forget about him if Smith can handle the pressure or if Marsh is capable of playing 80 minutes. I would prefer Marsh be played off the bench and if Smith cant handle FG as yet play Leuluai.

Its pretty clear that The Warriors want him to go to England as they would rather he not embarass them by performing well at another club. It looks like Parramatta had agreed to sign him and now the Warriors are the ones playing hardball. I think they thought the lure of the pound would get him to England, give him time to develop and then come home.....

if the eels wont pay a test player 50k.... #-o

They aren't paying a Test player $50k they are paying a release fee to the Warriors which by the sounds of things had already been agreed upon before the Warriors upped the ante....

that's right Colonel.

at the end of the day, I think after the Josh Davis episode it wouldn't surprise me if they both stand their ground and he doesn't end up coming at all.

Strange, I wonder why the Warriors want him to go in the first place?

It's hardly like Stacey Jones is a bankable option at half based on this season's form... you think Warrior would want to hang onto Leuluai if they're that hesitant to see him play against them?

I guess if he goes to England, he can then go back to NZ

If he goes to another NRL team, they think he might stay there

Warriors have also signed Nathan Fien from the Cowboys. He started to play really well in the finals.

Brian wants Leuluai, Brian will get him. Is the 50 grand part of the cap? If not I'll bet anyone he will come by the end of the week.

Doubtful, however it could well be a part of the cap. That could be why they are reluctant....

unless you know something we don't! I think it's a bit of a spanner in the works and i can't see it being resolved before the end of the tri nations both partys are being pretty stubborn about it.

With sign on bonuses or release fees.

They are payable in the year they are signed. I'm just not sure when the 2004 Cap ends is it Dec 31st? or is it the grand final? or is it the end of the financial year?

Thats why Manly were able to sign the likes of Kite & Kennedy and parra with Riddell, Tahu etc to big deals they paid em a huge sign on fee that got counted against the 2004 cap which both clubs were under and then pay them a smaller yearly fee so as to not go under the cap.

It's reported that Kite is getting 390K a year from Manly for 3 years which works out as being $1.17m more likley he'll be getting say 320K a year and he get a 210K sign on bonus. (Don't quote me on excate figures)

So, any release fee paid to the Warriors will be counted under the cap the question tho, is what years cap.

Whatever happens, it will be sorted. We'll get him. Don't worry. I don't know anything. Just my instinct. Which (just quietly) has been OK this year. :)

given that the 50K would be going to the Warriors and not Thomas, I don't see why it should count under the cap at all.
