Why the f*ck are we going after Brad Drew again? The guy played his best football 6-8 years ago!! You have got a young guy with some ability like Stuart Webb (probably mid 20's) off-contract and looking for a crack at first grade from the Dragons that we could pick-up for similiar money.

Who left these loonies to run the asylum?

this is a smokescreen, right?

no offence to drew, he was good for us when he was here, but an old rake isn't what we need. hagan needs to get matt keating playing as much game time as possible and have a backrower that can cover dummy half if mk needs a spell.

we need to buy/develop/fix props.

I'm going to put my neck out and say there would be a role for Brad Drew as a back up to Keating. Drew off the bench playing 20-25 minutes, he has got a good football brain and Keating would learn a lot more from him than off Riddell.

That being said, I wouldnt pay much for Drew, and I'd hope we are looking at other, more pressing areas rather than a back up hooker.

My head hurts but I have tried to find the sense in it all. He'd be cheap, he has a decent football brain and can at a pinch play in the halves. At the moment with Hodkinson and Maloney off elsewhere the club would be relying on Dan Mortimer, Kris Keating, Nathan Campbell and Josh Murray to back up Finch and Marty Mitchell (assuming he grabs a deal for next year) and Anthony Mitchell to back up Matt Keating.

Probably a better option in using Drew who would retire at the end of next season than signing a younger player who would be looking for a longer term deal and may halt the progress of Mitchell or the young halves.

There is some sense to it. It hurt my head to make that much sense from it but I'll agree with fish on this one.

You're all missing what is happening... First it was Ian Hindmarsh, JT was coach now Brad Drew. They are trying to get the 2001 team to come back to or through the club. Does that mean Lyon is still a chance? Chan and Jay Cayless in 2010! :)

Brad Drew would be an excellent addition - to the COACHING STAFF?

At his best (and in 2001 he was sublime) he was still an absolute speedbump in defense. What would 7 years, plus coming off the bench in England have done for his defensive abilities?

We have spent a couple of years proving that 2 hookers doesn't work. Not only do we refuse to acknowledge this, but we seem to think going back 6 years will change that?

For those desperate to offload Guru - I think this is a major mistake. He is one of 2-3 blokes in our club with a genuine power game. We should be getting him back right mentally and getting someone to overhaul the backline defensive issues (which have been clearly shown not to be his fault). We have missed him tremendously osince he was dropped. We have not contested physically, He has been one of our few who can do so.

Please, please release 3 blokes:

1. Finch
2. Cayless
3. Cordoba

Then buy 4 props and 1 backrower with the money. Let KK and Feleti play 6 and 7.

With the current rumours floating around England, which have been mentioned in other threads, it would seem that one of the players they are offloading is FFMM.

i agree. i bagged gu2's form earlier in the year but he is one player that could come in and actually take pressure off the forwards.

Maybe Nathan ' the king of sting' Cayless will want to test himself in a tougher market? too big and strong for the NRL, plus he may think he could get $600,000 after the pain he has dished out in the last few years.

Any truth to the rumour that Dean Schifilliti is also in the mix??

Don't be ridiculous! We only chase good players.

I would think the players being offloaded are:
Grothe (doesn't take Einstein to figure that one out)
Moi Moi (as per the rumours)
Burt or B Smith

The top 2 would free up 500k. Burt/ Ben are both around 180-200k. So that's close enough to 700k freed up.

I imgine Kaufusi would stroll right in as one player we're chasing. I'd like to see us throw the rest of the cash at Costigan.

Sadly, Hindy may be one who takes the overseas money train - he's contemplating it for the future already, and if a big deal is offered, Hagan is still our coach, and we look like running in the bottom 4 again, then I imagine he might jump at it.

again, why release fui ( our best prop) and not Cayless? sure the 'king of sting' is very intimidating and dishes out punishment whereever he trots, but he could command 1 million a season over in the UK, we just can't compete with that!
