Indeed. A broken promise, and an important one.
You'd really think the club would want to absorb, involve and reward all those fans who they have begged to become members and who have done so.
A simple fans forum would go a long way towards achieving that, one would think.

Suity

No one begged you Suity to become a member. You sign up for it because you support the club.

Your on the right boat because you have the ability to ask any board member or the CEO a question that you would like answered because of your familiar face with them.

I dont understand what a fan forum is going to achieve. Can you imagine some of the questions members will bring up?

- The hot chips are too cold
- Not enough parking at the Leagues Club
- Why cant I get a pie for $1 like how I use to buy 1 when the stadium opened in 1986?
- The costs of jerseys are too high?
- Why does the bar close at half time?
- Was Bert promised a position by the CEO?

Everyone has a right to ask whatever question they like, but questions like the one's above are time wasting and non benefiting to the club as they have no control.

I'm not saying your right or wrong, I've even got some questions that I would like answers to but like you Suity, we can ask these peoples at the next game or club event.

I don't have a problem with what you have said Jodeci, and although you are probably correct that dumb questions will be asked, your reply came across as a tad facetious.
I have, on many occassions, put questions to many members of the board. I've also suggested to many people on here to get off their arses and do the same.
But I have, in the past, been looked straight in the eye on several occassions by several board members and told that they WOULD hold a fan forum(s). It was just one item in which they took to the election(s).

What would it achieve? At the very least, it would show to the fans that the board and club won't distance themselves from the very people who keep this club alive.

.....or any other player who made a squillion from the super league war

Good point. But its always Kenny who is in the news with some hard luck story or another. Its sad, but career-wise the man is a cautionary tale about planning ahead. He definitely deserved much better.

So the average member would know exactly who to approach at a game about a membership issue?

Regardless of how dumb you might think the average member is, they still support the club and deserve the opportunity to have a voice.

I guess the promises were rubbish then.

We will hold regular fan forums = there will be no carbon tax under a govt I lead.

Did you not read my second last line about everyone has a right to ask whatever question they want providing it's in relation to a matter that is worth discussing?

Did I mention that our members are dumb?

All I was saying is that if any one has a question that could impact or benefit the club or just some general feedback, I'm all for it but it needs to be done properly.

The problem occurs when at the AGM's, everyone all of a sudden has a voice. Dont leave your questions till the AGM if you have a question you want answered then ask.

I asked a board member on Friday Night about 5 questions regarding the Leagues Club upgrading and they were more then happy to tell me.

I will be firing up a new thread on memberships later this week cause I would like to hear what other fellow eels supporters think of the packages/pricing/satisfaction/money for value/events etc because I'm gonna mention these in some way or some how to the club and get some answers.

I have these discussions with people who sit around me but I'd like to know what people on here think of the memberships we have.

Sydney FC fans have a CEOs Corner:

http://sfcu.com.au/smf111/index.php?board=3.0

They have rules about asking the CEO a question and everything (check out the sticky)

Course, this works for them because:
a) they have less fans (though the fans they do have are generally more involved)
b) there is one owner of the site and he can easily make decisions regarding people that break their forum rules. He is generally tough but fair and uses common sense to update the rules

This is not a bad idea.

Maybe the AGM wouldn't be overrun if the forums were held as promised. :sarcasm:.

my guess is that Paul Osborne doesn't like saying no and gave Kenny a non-commital answer which the latter interpreted as a yes. But that is just a guess.

I remember Brett Kenny as a great player. But I'd be heartbroken if Hindy or Caylo were still here in twenty years time arking up about how the club owes them a job etc. All that this episode shows is that players need to be prepared for a life after footy. It doesn't seem that Kenny had any career in mind during his playing days. So his current woes are fairly predictable.

I think the club has been doing a good job since the 1990's in helping players transition. Thats probably why you don't see these type of stories about Dean Pay, Jim Dymock or Jarred McCracken.

I hope so. I would rather that he didn't have the heart to tell the bloke than be a liar. Maybe he didn't have the heart to tell Tahu he didn't deserve the payout either.

Sorry... now i'm just getting childish and catty. Probably doesn't make the point any less valid though. ;-)
