Good news. Looks like Cowboys missed an opportunity. Good to see it goes well beyond just taking a game once a year there.

Today the Pirtek Parramatta Eels and the Northern Territory Government have launched a 4-year partnership that will display the impact Rugby League can have not just as a major sporting spectacle but also as a vehicle for positive community outcomes.
This partnership is made up of 4 major pillars –
1. NRL Trial match to be played in Alice Springs each year.
2. NRL Premiership match to be played in Darwin each year.
3. Sports Development – Elite pathways and Participation
4. Community engagement and programs
In each of the 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 seasons, the Eels will play an NRL pre-season trial in Alice Springs and an NRL Premiership match in the capital city of Darwin.
For each of these trips the playing squad will spend extended periods working within the community promoting participation, healthy lifestyles and combating anti-social behaviour.
Pirtek Parramatta Eels Interim CEO Matt Phelan cites genuine engagement as the key to a successful relationship between the club and NT.

Just a question of which team(s) they'll want to play against in Darwin over the coming years. Hopefully the Cowboys as geographically, they're the logical choice.

Id say it'll be either Cowboys or Titans first, maybe they'll rotate between teams, like with the Souths Perth games.

There's also a chance they might go demographically as well, as theres a fair few kiwis up there - thus could be the warriors.

Yeah, the cowboys are the team to play in Darwin. They've got some good support up there. It doesn't matter who they play in Alice Springs because it will be well supported. My hope is that whoever plays in the trial at Alice actually names a decent side, when the broncos played the cowboys here a couple of years ago Thurston, Bowen, Lockyer, Thaiday and Hodges(?) all sat on the sideline.

Well done Parra.

My brother moved to Darwin a few years ago. He's an eels fan, so he'll be delighted with this news.
