I just can't figure out why a promising young player would want to throw it all away for the talent black hole that is the Eels.

Papalii needs to hope the Eels have some more big signings on the way, or he has just signed on for years of failure.

Not having a shot at you Skeepe, but the Eels bashing is going to come back and bite hard on some of the twats in here.

Every side has shit years, it will happen to Melbourne too when the special kids finish there.

Eels will rebuild and will again be a force in the NRL. Swings and round a bouts.

When the dogs sink, doggiesbro won't hang in there like theses Eels blokes are, he will disappear because he wouldn't be able to cope with others giving him the shit he dishes out. then when they rise again he would bolt back in here and start beating his chest all over again.

Mate if we improve this year and come 12th ill be bloody happy. I think this signing along with will hoppa shows we will improve and are doing all we can to do that. We have some guys coming off contract this year who by all rights should be running around in the nsw cup and will hopefully snag another good signing. Out big weakness is hooker. I mean Matt Keating is a very good defender but he would have to be one of the slowest feeder of the ball half the time he looks like he is just looking around wondering who the f**k to pass it too. Nath smith is a good prospect as is young Luke Kelly at half/five eight. Get another solid prop send lussick to backrow and a good hooker (Farah would be a pipe dream) and I think we have some good young backs and we will be competitive for the 8 in 2014.

For us eels fans things do look brighter

I was more referring to the fact that every promising player who has moved to the Eels in the last few years has gone on to fail horribly.

The Eels seem to have far more success with those who have come through the system at Parramatta. There's just something about the club that sees players who come from different systems and cultures be unable to fit in. Fui Fui's really the only player I can think of who has gone there and thrived in about 5 years.

But this conversation may be all for nothing... some interesting tweets coming from very reliable Canberra Times journalist Jon Tuxworth:

What I've been told by people who would know, Eels know Papalii has had 2nd thoughts and wants to stay at Raiders. Issuing release Cont

designed to pressure him into honouring agreement with eels. He doesn't want to go. #nrl

Raiders fans bitching with no sense of irony. Remind me again which junior clubs in the Canberra competition Mal Meninga, Gary Coyne, Steve Walters, Gary Belcher, Kevin Walters, Peter Jackson, Steve Jackson, Brent Todd, John Ferguson, Ivan Henjack, Craig Bellamy, Sam Backo, Dean Lance, Noa Nadruku, Ken Nagas, Sean Hoppe, Rueben Wiki, John Lomax, Quentin Pongia, Paul Osborne, and Darren Fritz played for?

Great pick up for the eels. Sticky has a great record getting the best out of backrowers but that is assuming he is still there next year.

Was a different comp back when said players were around. No qld team No Nz team, if you bothered to study the raiders players roster in our history you would realise that back in the day we only had local juniors, qlders and Kiwis to work with.

If you cant understand our frustration at this in these circumstances, where the club has put utmost efforts into junior development, because A. We cant sign anyone from sydney and B. There are 3 qld and 1 Nz club now which to compete with,

Maybe we should take a leaf out of Saints book and just take over a whole nother area.

Whilst you are at this, run through the current squad and tell us who wasnt a locally developed junior, there are a few......

Mate have a look at the Parramatta and Wests juniors who are playing for other teams throught the NRL. You loose one player, boo fkn hoo! We loose them every year!

And considering your state cup side sits in the Parra district and is 5 minutes from Wests district, you have even less reason to sook about loosing one player to.us.

Because he is getting payed good mone and in a couple years Parra will be challenging for the comp and the Raiders will continue to b an AFTERTHOUGHT , how is that, and yes other signings are coming, if there is a black hole Canberra is it!!!!

Spot on, two wrongs always make a right, an eye for a f**king eye I say. Just because League has been thrust
from the management dark ages doesn't mean we have to respect the rights of clubs to nurture talent. Dog eat
f**king dog and to hell with anything that forces clubs to unearth champions when they are ripe for the picking.
I too vote for imbicilic logic.

Would be a shame, he was such a promising young player.

:lol::

It sucks seeing a player's career ended through stupid decisions...

Not really, can't blame him taking the massive overs.

There goes his promising career.

Shame Parra can't get a decent coach.

One of them tried to bag the Dogs paying Des the big bucks.

Don't worry they got Kearney on the cheap :lol:

I also heard this morning that the Eels offer was for $500k a year, which just about made me choke on my cornflakes, can't blame the kid for taking that offer.

It's pawwa, you know thats the case.

i can't see parra paying massive overs for a player. It's just not them.

gold.

word is he took less to sign at Parra

EVEN BETTER.

LOL.

So is it true pawwa are trying to force the poor kid now he realised that massive money means he had to leave raiders for pawwa?

Seriously? The deal with Mounties only exists because we are forced to have it by the NSWRL. The only first grader it's produced is Iosefa.

"Whether he's signed anything or not won't stop our determination to keep him. We're aware of the rule and we have every intention of exploiting it." - Don Furner

That coupled with the current theory that Parramatta announced this early knowing he was having 2nd thoughts and trying to pressure him to honour the deal.
Quotes from Anthony Milford on twitter...

This thing is very, very far from over
