i'm not here to have a fight ... just thought it interesting that smithy is considered a failure, but ando isn't - yet at the top level their GF win loss record is pretty similar

and i'm definitely not trying to bring ando down - i am loving him as our coach

but you've tried to isolate some statistics in an attempt to benchmark smith's overall incompetence against the promising and already successful (esl) early career of anderson

you say you might not be looking for an arguement, but your intent is transparent and bullsh*t

well no - someone said 2009 would win cos smith can't win a GF - and i thought that an interesting thing since both have a similar NRL GF record ..... but if u wanna get all narky, knock yourself out ;-)

What are everyones opinions in relation to which team would win out of our 2 Grand Final teams, 2001 & 2009?

2009 would have won if you are comparing the actual performance on the day? Otherwise there's no doubt that the 2001 team was probably one of the best outfits not to win the GF.

just calling a spade a spade. or brian smith a incomparable failure, however you want to interpret it

while brian smith stayed at the club too long, it's way, way to harsh to call him an incomparable failure. Two minor premierships and regukar appearances in the finals said he did something right.

Anyway, without much thought, here is my side:

1. Hodgson
2. Hayne
3. Lyon
4. Tahu
5. Burt
6. Mateo
7. Taylor
13. Wagon
12. I Hindmarsh
11. N Hindmarsh
10. Fui Fui
9. PJ Marsh
8. Cayless

14. B.Drew
15. M. Vella
16. D. Widders
17. Robinson

As for the question about the comparison between the 01 and the 09 GF sides. I think clearly the 09 side played better in the last month of the comp than the 01 side, but we should not forget what that 01 side achieved over the course of the whole season. Have we ever had a side that dominated a home and away season that much?

Six and seven are the biggest issues. There has been no one that has consistently held the role in nine seasons that could really be considered a standout. Robson and Mortimer have probably been as consistent this year as Buettner/Taylor, Morris/Smith and Finch/Smith.

I had a massive issues with these 2 spots as well.

Looking back I forgot about Jason Smith. Sure he was only here for 2000 however I think had he played in the 2000 preliminary final against Brisbane along with Dymock he would have been the game breaker for us. The fact he would have played only if we made the GF was a real loss for the club.

Dymock and Jason Smith in the halves (1999,2000 models) would be the best halves pairing. Play them both in a number six jersey.

If Jason Smith or Dymock remained with the club in 2001 I think we win comfortably.

big call, that would mean that we would of had to do it without Micky B, JT, Solo and Drewy who were all basicaly signed due to the cap space left behind by Smith and JD.

We may have missed out on Solo or Buettner - Taylor came on a chance at redemtion and Drew was looking for a starting role as he was stuck behind Gower.

Had either one stayed though we wouldn't have been any worse off.
