Eels team of the Decade 2000-2009

I'm pretty sure Daniel Wagon played quite a number of games at 5'8th in 2001, and Dykes was first choice number 6 in 2002. Michael Buettner wasn't outstanding in 2001 either, he was a solid member of the team who performed really well and contributed to the team but that's as far as it goes. Mateo's form at 5'8th last year had him being talked up for origin.
You only have to remember back to the 2nd half of the opening game of 2008. Feleti ripped the Bulldogs apart. Sure the guy may have below average defence but so do a lot of other players and very few players as big as Mateo have his attacking flair. It's a toss between him & Buetts, if you choose by position played it might go to Buettner, if by input and ability then it goes to Mateo

Agreed. That's why I put Mateo ahead of Buettner, I think he's contributed much more to Parramatta in his 3 years in first grade than Buettner did in his two without a doubt.

Until hayne's form blitz this season mateo had established himself as our classiest player.

He led the dally m's last year based on his form at 6, which was the best and most dominant form of any player in that position since kenny for us IMO.

He has been in the top grade for about 2.5 seasons of wich he lost 3/4 to injury. That is the only reason he is at all a controversial selection but to me has already shown more than mick buettner.

Mindy you gronk was one of finch's and fitzy's biggest fans so he's no flash judge.

Beats me why you play the man all the time Bigfella. :?

I actually enjoy your posts even though (maybe because) we usually have a different take on things.

for a start, Feleti never played a full season at 6 while Micky B did with exception of maybe 1 game in 01. i think Beautner's form that year was absolutely brilliant.

Beautts was great in 01, but tbh I wanted Feleti in my side somewhere and all of the forwards I picked out weighed Buettner's impact IMO.

I also think the noughties have really seen the 5/8 role evolve and we don't see many traditional playmakers in the position. Probably also why that particular position is one of the most debatable.

I think wags played a couple of games at the very most and I beg to differ about Beauts I thought he was fantastic for the whole season, but I guess it's all about opinion isn't it?

daniel wagon started at 6 a total of 6 times in 2001 against panthers sharks (twice) knights warriors and tigers, did not play there in the finals

and although dykes was 6 for most of 2002, beutner did start 6 games there that season also after dykes went down injured in round 18

True. He was, but the whole side was. It's easy to look great in a side if the rest of them are playing great too. Mateo last year was outstanding in a bad side, that's a bit different. But each to their own.

Just trying to get a bite Suity.....

Brett's days at Parramatta ended, in my opinion, after Tallis ragdolled him in SOO. He wasn't the same player for the Eels after that. But he had a couple of good years with Wests, that's for sure.
I met Clinton in Brisbane in 2008 at the SOO luncheon. Great bloke..and I agree he was a terrific ambassador for both Parra and the Raiders.
We sent a couple of junior teams from here down to the ACT for end of season matches. We got David Furner and Clinton to come out and say g'day to the kids, which they did without any fanfare. The kids were thrilled to bits....

To me that's what football is all about. Stars with no big egos.

No problem. Be careful however, some people might think you are just a troll. ;-)
