Effort

Calming down a little I really though they played hard out there today.

On the positive side:-

1. Benji was amazing - he carried us out there.
2. Blair put in - he made a couple of errors but the effort was there.
3. BMM is turning into a really good first grader. I think he has to get a starting 2nd row spot alongside Ellis. He is a better player than Blair at the moment.
4. Fulton defensively was awesome.
5. Moltzen at 1 and involved in the game is really important to us - I think when he went off we lost a lot of our structure.

On the negatives:-

1. We need to tighten up around the ruck. Luke scored 2 easy tries.
2. Benji needs to learn that he has to play percentages for the whole 80 minutes. That poor option that he took to Ryan
3. Blair is one of the offenders with regards to poor defence - he misses some important tackles.

Discipline is what cost us that game. Poor penalties, gifted field position, and lack of concentration close to the line.

Other than that we looked a whole lot better out there today.

Some of those penalties though were pretty rough. I totally agree that those tries that Luke scored were unacceptable.

It hurts but it was a much improved effort.

I agree, but we can't really use that as an excuse. When you give away so many soft penalties the ref's will eventually stop looking closely at the 50/50s, and just ping you whenever they are in doubt.

The same thing happened to us last week and the week before. It's frustrating, especially when the team is falling apart all over the field. But the players kind of bring it on themselves with sloppy discipline, and it just gets worse as the game wears on because they don't seem capable of shaking it off and getting on with it.

Today they did alright in most other aspects of the game - but they gave away too many penalties that they couldn't back up with rock solid defence.

You guys deserved that one... I'm very happy to be on the other end of it after our round 1 though

Marshall is possibly the greatest player of his generation... when he is "on" at least

Yep - he is something special. I think he got a little arrogant or over-confident out there based on how well he was performing. Hopefully he learns from that.

Groat has to spend some time in the lower grades working on his fitness and defensive deficiencies!

Humble really didn't do anything. He wasn't bad though and he got the ball to Marshall quickly.

Humble looked great, but Moltzen seemed to lift a notch - hard to know if he'd have played a better game at halfback today or if he's just more comfortable at fullback...

I thought we were the better team, however that doesn't always mean you are gong to get the two points, lapses late in the second half allowed Souths to steal victory.I hope they stick with Humble,we really have no other options as chopping and changing each week does not help our cause.

Top effort for 73 minutes.

Humble - well Sterlo liked Humble so that will do me.

Fulton, well it makes it interesting next week with regards the 13 and 17. I think he deserves to be rewarded with a starting role although the state of Ellis might mean he starts anyway.

I think Groat might be the one to drop out of the 17 though.

Can't wait to see Farah next week.

It's taken until round 5 for us to put together a performance with a somewhat acceptable effort/attitude. That in itself is inexcusable.

The most positive thing for me was our defence for the most part held strong even tho we were without Ellis for most of the game. They at least proved they can do it without him if needed, which will be needed now he is likely out for 6 weeks.

Im pretty happy with this week - despite the fact that we didnt come up with the points, we put the effort in for the most part - and thats a good thing.

Given our backs were doing OK - I still wonder where this leaves us with Anasta next year.

He might be a good thing for us. He will be more even tempered in close games.

Its hard to believe we lost after the effort the team put in,however i felt Rowdy had a ordinary game he seems to be out of sorts in defence,is he carrying an injury?or was it hindering him playing right side?

It has to be some injury he is just not firing also he is a much better left side player
