ELLIOT'S RISKY BUSINESS: Part One.

The boys arent quite back yet but already Elliot has seen fit to bring back Panther old boy Adamson.

Management has been warned that Adamson's presence is at once devisive as it appears to be unusual.

I have heard the word that he made a genuine and unforgiving campaign out of sacking Royce Simmonds, one of the greatest of all Panthers and a person still very much admired and respected at Penrith.

He did succeed (Adamson) but in so doing made several sworn enemies at the club. They are unlikely to welcome him back. Royce of course went on to nail a Premiership with Sheens at WT.

Royce is tough on players, tough on titles!

It may have been that Adamson made a full and frank disclosure of this past unhappy period in panther politics to Elliot and his alleged direct involvement.

I hope so as Elliot will need to understand these things.

The jury is out of course. Adamsom could well be the best thing to happen since 2003 and may even help the Panthers win a GF.

In part 2 we will examine differing versions of events of Elliots recruitment-why are the club and elliot are telling different stories? What about player recruitment? -are we being told the truth and if not, why not?

In part 3 we will look at his past success and ask the question, can Elliot do it with the Panthers and how long might that take?

All this and more- here on LU- where you dont miss a rumour!

Cheers Choc Soldier. Plenty to ramble-on about over summer.

Ive been lurking around LU tonight and Ive found it is fairly up-market as forums go:

So that and your comments have given me a good idea for a series of forum lectures.

You dont need a bachelors degree to attend. Life experience is very welcome (and often just as valuable!)

Together, we are going to raise the standards of the forum even higher.

(cough)

"The Dave Q Lecture Series number one "Panthertown" a study in league excellence"

Before I start class, I want to tell you a few anecdotes from my own life, a topic I have rarely raised, especially in such a public venue, but I digress:

Not so long ago, last week in fact, I was entertaining a VIP from one of our friendly neighbouring Asian countries.

Work was paying, so we determined to save the company money and eat at Doyles Seafood Restaurant on circular quay. $28 for a plate of fish & chips folks. Thats right, more expensive than a ticket in reserved seating at Telstra or my closest paddock, Parramatta Stadium. Parking alone is $25 but you get a magnificent view of the opera house and ferries trying to avoid collisions with each other and your car is still there after you have eaten.

(cough)

Anyway, the pleasantries are exchanged through an interpreter. Lots of smiling. He was a pleasant chap and the meeting was more in the nature of a friendly chat as opposed to the grubby topic of business. Never talk business at business meetings, that will come later. For now, its eats, alcohol and international politcs.

Another feature of Doyles is the irish waiters.

I am sure that those of us in Panthertown would consider that "Welcome to Sydney" uttered with an heavy irish accent has an unusual yet honest ring about it.

Anyway, to be continued....

Before I go, tonights homework will be to provide five ideas on how to get people to gamble less of their cash at the pokies and buy more valuable LU merchandise such as beanies, mugs, bottle openers and thongs.

Does LU have a shop? Can one purchase an offical LU abacus?

First lad or ladess who can decipher the answer in latin will be excused from further classes this week.

All that is you, is here in L.U

you know the coaching business is getting a little ridiculous when coaches are judged even before they start at your club.....from the perspective of a raiders fan, elliott is a very good coach...all you need to do is look at his coaching record in the esl to have an idea what he can do if he has quality players at his disposal...and at penrith, he does have quality players...Gower, Priddis, Wesser, Puletua, Pritchard, Clinton, Waterhouse, Lewis and Rooney...

my interest in penrith has risen due to elliotts decision to move there, i think that 2007 is the year of the rise of Luke Lewis as a quality playmaker

As for matt adamson coming back i welcome the move yes he played a some would say signifcant part in roycey leaving us and perhaps thats true, and well its obvious by gones are never by gones in the nrl the tension the drama never ends and royce will no doubt still hold a minor grudge against matt.

But matt is a patherman we all know that he has been a key player in previous yrs with us and hopefully he can now be a key man in the future off the field for us.

I think of matt as i do geyer whoever has him there at there club he motivates them well he knows when to throw his verbal punches and where to direct them.

matt and matt can bring great things to penrith and im looking forwad to seeing it,

well we bloody well hope its all different, otherwise we'll get the same results.

As for Adamson...I hate the decision to bring him back. He is a traitor of the highest order and a plague on the club. I hate that he is back in a coaching capacity.

Agreed Big Mick. What he did still leaves a sour taste in my mouth. The only thing that'll change my mind is if he helps us win another comp then I'll say he is a dead set legend ;-)

In regard to Matt Adamson I retain an open mind. Matt served our club well for a lot of years and he wasn't on his own wanting Royce gone. From memory Gower and Girdler also weren't keen on being coached by Royce. I do think that Matt offering the job to Craig Bellamy (as reported at the time) was overstepping the mark. Although I don't agree with the way it was done it was definatly time for Royce to move on.Royce did have a good oppurtunity to make us a premiership force but failed.

Well said.

Whilst Royce was a champion player for your club, his coaching skills had too many question marks. After all, he had 8 seasons as coach and only managed to take the team to the finals twice. It only took Phil Gould & John Lang two seasons to coach the team to a premiership.

Royce isn't the only one though. Look at legends such as Wally Lewis, Mal Meninga and to a lesser extent Paul Langmack. All class players but average coaches. It's funny how this occurs, when other coaches that weren't superstar players turn out to be successful coaches (Phil Gould, Craig Bellamy, Michael Hagan, etc)

From an outsiders perspective, I thought Royce was a good coach. The fact that he didnt perform to expectations may be able to be accounted for by reasons other than himself. I dont know, I can try to find out.

Notwithstanding that, the disparity of comments here appear to reflect some differing views on the issue that as I understand it, mirror those at the club.

So long as as these views are held (rightly or wrongly), Adamsom is unlikely to achieve the full support of the club cadre and important influences and that casts a shadow over Elliot's decision to bring him along.

I would submit that its a shadow that neither Elliot or the club need at this time and it brings into question any claims he wishes to make about a new direction etc because he has an old face selling us a new product.

And dont forget everyone, after this massive restructure, if things go badly, everybody will be baying for blood. Exactly whoose, I'm not sure of, but the panthers are used to success and being competitive now.

Expectations remain quite high. If the side doesnt do as well at did in 2006 (which wasnt that bad) people may be saying "well stuff these changes, lets go back to past arrangements-at least we almost made the finals in 2006."

Of course thats not a realistic assessment becasue of differences in playing personell (and their abilities and skills and league acumen) thats like comparing chalk and cheese. But I think people will nonetheless be attracted to the simplicity of the argument.

And one wonders what Lang could have done with the resources Elliot is getting. Thats fair comment I think. He wasnt given much by the cadre. I will talk about Elliots recruitment in the next episode. His version as I understand it, conflicts with the club's official account. That will not the rock the world or depreciate either party but I find it interesting nonetheless.

Anyway, the juries still out about Elliot. I hope he buries me with a GF appearance. Suffice to say, I hold good thoughts of him.

I like the Idea of M A coming back, he was a great player, and he knew what he wanted from the team, this may have upset a few people, but we all have to upset people at times when there is something going wrong.

I don't like the fact that Adamson is back either. But the decision has been made, and I'll accept it.

It's not like there's anything else we can do. :( We can keep our fingers crossed that he doesnt spoil our club though.
