Elliott cleaning house

One Warrior

Ok this is a long post, but there is a lot of evidence that Elliott is trying to instill a new culture at the club to replace what he said earlier in the season was in the furniture at the club. Following are posts from NZ Warriors.com speaking of a meeting after the Dragons game and before Mad Monday, telling players to basically pull their fingers out or ship out, Taylor hinted to crap attitudes in his last Radiosport interview, Taukeiaho is gone, likely Packer will be next, there are posts relating to Packer further on relating to a performance he put on at the awards night. Note also that he hasn't played for the club since the urinating incident in the Broncos game, this incident highly embarassed the club, noted he has been injured for a large part of that time. Vossy has tweeted that Packer will be at Newcastle next year and lots more rumours floating around about this.

I will also mention I believe Locke will still be with us next year, both Scurrah & Elliott denying he is leaving, Elliott has said multiple times that as long as he is at the club Locke will have place in the spine of the team, Bulldogs also denying it, I know this means nothing, but now outside sources also saying he is unlikely to move. Anyway read the below and decide for yourselves, sorry for the length of post and shoot me down if you want.

Posts as follows:

This might have been covered - but I only found out today ( through a friend of Wiki) that after the last game before mad Monday I understand, the warriors had another meeting aka after the penrith game meeting. Apparently a few players were told to suck it up or hit the exit door out of the club. According to wiki a number of boys took it real bad - which accounts perhaps for the ship sinking tweets. Wiki said there were big changes coming including in his words ' the hardest pre season training regime in the NRL'. Wiki singled out 6 players - which I won't mention- that were very unhappy about not being considered NRL superstars, one would probably be mentioned every 3rd post on here. So maybe that's the reason there seems to be deafening silence from warrior players welcoming Tomkins into the fold.
On the tweet gate, a workmate is a good friend of Gubb. He stopped him sending a offensive tweet 3 weeks ago telling him to grow up. Gubb didn't send it. When he saw the latest one he just said the guys an idiot - and that's coming from his friends.

Beat me to it Buck777! Got told by 2 different sources yesterday, 1 an insider and the other a media person heavily involved with the Warriors, that big changes are afoot and I dont just mean preseason either. Think 'clean out'...

Interesting.
Mate of mine (who I assume would have been at the awards dinner due to business relationships) sent me a text that Packer told them that night that he wouldn't be back in 2014.
I ignored the text due to my recent memory of his inside knowledge being pretty disappointing (Bellamy and Carney being the two big f**k ups I remember) and thinking awards night, nobody's enough of a dick to quit on awards night.

Packer is gone now. More to follow...

I hope we have some signings planned. I consider Russell a big loss, as out only "prop with a difference" ie big body and aggression. Matagi is great but honestly, he's fairly svelte just like our other props.
We got dominated weekly through lack of agro and size... not fun to lose our biggest prop.
Need to sign somebody.

I'd love to know who the players are that followed Packer out of the awards dinner?

Or the players who Wiki mentioned?

My money is on:
Packer
Gubb
Matulino
Maybe a Lousi or two

but there must be more.

Good post, thanks for info.

This is exactly what the club needs, we are in still in the aftermath of the damage done by the 2012 year, cleaning out the garbage is a necessary step. As a result we need to become a top eight side next year.

We have signed Tomkins, Townsend and Bakuya but have lost Packer, Taylor, Rapira, Mara, Locke (maybe) Ropati?

I know Tomkins cost a bob but were we well under the cap last year there must be a fair bit left to spend at the moment.

That can't be the players Wiki supposedly mentioned because outside of Matulino those players are a hell of a lot closer to reserve graders than superstars.

You're right, none of them are first pick players except Packer and Matulino. I guess I am more picking players who have shown dubious attitudes via twitter, probably relevant but maybe not the guys in question.

Where that guy says "one would probably be mentioned every 3rd post on here" that presumably infers Johnson. Slight throw back and you can find a few dodgy Johnson media comments and rumours.

Not sure why Johnson would feel threatened though... Townsend isn't a threat to his jersey and presumably neither is Tomkins. Even out of form, Johnson is the most dangerous half we have. He supposedly isn't on much over 250k though, so perhaps bitchy over Tomkins' massive salary.

Maybe they just subscribe to the shiznit school of rating/rankings and if you are a top ten player in your position then you are elite :sarcasm:

I imagine Matulino and Mateo are causing problems because Mara, Packer are definitely gone and Locke could be sometime soon as well.

Their drop in form was the most obvious among everyone.

The strange part is that after Mateo re-signed, the team seemed to have got it all together and we were delivering on the park. I wonder what changed since then.

I would be devastated if we lost Matulino.

Not so much, Packer.

Not at all, Gubb or the Lousi's.

Packer is particularly disappointing to me. Has the potential to be a really intimidating mongrel, but just can't put it all together.

We satirised Packer as the 'Taumarunui Express' (or something) in a town/player thread on here some time ago.

It was really funny and hit the mark. Packer was too inconsistent to be a major loss and if he can be replaced with someone with that virtue (consistency), even if he's smaller, less dynamic, or whatever, then overall I think we're better off.

It's a given though, a fired up Packer was something else.

I'm really of two minds about this at the moment. Sure, getting rid of bad attitudes and dead wood can only be a good thing, but it really has me wondering how things have got to this point?

I posted in here some time ago about comments made by Joe Gulavao that I found interesting. He mentioned his poor attitude to everything when he was a young player at the Warriors. Training especially. He went on to say it was only when he went on to play for some more professional set ups in Sydney that his attitude was forced to change.

This makes me wonder where our leadership is at the Warriors? Both in the playing ranks and management? How are these young guys being allowed to carry on the way they are? And would good solid leadership go a long way towards changing this? I for one will find it pretty hard to swallow if guys with such enormous potential as Packer and especially Matulino are lost to the club.

As opposed to fast eddies school of thought that if your a top ESL player you will automatically be a superstar in the NRL... no chance of it being a flop according to him...

And for the record... Locke is a lot higher up the chain than Rusty Packer, Gubb and co...

I'm for this cultural change, sure we'll lose some good players (and I hope Johnson isn't one of them to go).

This club has needed a decent clean out for a while and having Elliott as a veteran NRL coach, is something that has been sorely missed (not taking anything away from Anderson or Clearly).

Some players that are carrying on like kids are going to get a huge wake up playing for Australian clubs, and the ones that think they are "superstars"'will most likely be playing NSW Cup

Tomkins will win the Dally M for the next 3 seasons, switch to the Kiwis and take Lockes spot at fullback again.

I'll be shedding no tears for anyone who gets released. One of the worst things about being a Warriors fans, are the non-fans who pander to you about "Oh gee mate, those Warriors sure are hot and cold aren't they?" The soon this shit gets put to the sword, the better.
