I thought we were a goner when Taylor went. That's one of those once a year innings from Santner, and he was due. Would be great to see him do it more consistently though.

That's absolutely Munros weakness. Can go too hard too early outside off, lose his shape and edge behind. It's happened a number of times this summer. As much of a fan of his I am, it's poor that he continues to fall the same way.

He is what he is - impressive/surprising that he has a decent first class record, but I think top sides will work him out in anything beyond T20

Woakes off to a huge start in the pivotal battle of the #8s. He was schooled by Santa's little helper in Game 1, that would be embarrassing for a #8 of his stature - fully expected this retort

With Williamson out, England should win - the top order has a huge hole without him (same of Taylor, and Guptill)

And finally, bit weird for me that Taylor or Latham didn't bat 3 and slip Chapman in at 4-5...

Taylor spent much of his early career at 3, and is clearly the best player in the team with Williamson out (and in odis it's close between them when they're both playing)

So what you're saying is that Taylor should be batting at 8...?

Would Dipak Patel be one of NZs greatest ever #8s gentlemen? Perhaps Ian David Stockley Smith with his bash them up style? Where would Matthew Hart fit into it?

who batted 8, Stockley or Paddles? Both would be in the discussion - but comparisons with Woakes might be a bit much, we all know how special he is

Captain Dan was a handy #8 too

Would have been Paddles at 7, Stockley at 8. Which we know is clearly wrong. You put your pivotal part in at 8.

The shame of it all.

Perhaps Evan Gray at 8?

Well this is going poorly.

Gonna need some magic from the most important position in the order

a f**k load of magic - be lucky to make 120 - some great fielding

Haha - the best chance for NZ to win this game now is for CDG and Santner to have better days than Woakes and Ali and that is at the 1/4 match phase.

Though I'd settle for a repeat of the NZ v Pak Basin reserve game from 2016 where Mitch Mc and Henry wagged supremely at 9 and 10 after Santner with a typical spud bat ( in Niccolls). But those type of innings are just so rare.

Two good grabs from Roy for sure, but equally poor shots IMO. Especially from Guptill who needed to bat deep today
