ENGLAND KNIGHTS v IRELAND

England Knights v Ireland. This Saturday 16th June, 16.45pm, langtree Park, St.Helen's. This is being played as a double header along with the England v Exiles game at 18.45pm. The one ticket gives entry to both games although the RFL have hardly advertised this fact. Nor is it mentioned on ticketmaster where they are sold. It's a shame as both teams deserve a decent crowd. I'm sure if the England fans knew, they would get the value and watch both games.
Spread the word !!!!

Come on you boys in green.

it'll be good to hear you whinge about the knights for abit.....
How can you claim to be interested in international development and then post crap like this? Get a grip.

FWIW, Ireland have agreed to not select a bunch of first-choice players for this match on the basis that it's a meaningless game and England Knights are not a real team, which probably explains most of the absences listed earlier in the thread. 5-10 years ago these types of games didn't even exist. Shows how far we have come that we now have a weekend in the north with 3 international rep games!

I read the link above about Aston not selecting the halifax lads. This was a polite way of saying that the club would not release them. Which is probably the case for several other players too. So we can assume that this is the case with leigh who also play NRC on Sunday and have a fistful of irish players. If the RFL wanted this fixture, they should have stipulated that clubs in the UK release their players to Ireland and not just England. Totally unfair. And the RLI should not have agreed to it without that guarantee. The RLIF need to step in if they are really interested in the lesser nations developing on the international stage. Or are the lower ranked teams just cannon fodder for England to develop?

“It’s a friendly, not a full Test and I spoke to Mark Aston and asked him not to select them,” confirmed Harrison.

a friendly & not a test is hardly saying its a meaningless game and the knights are a joke team.....as for ireland not selecting its best players then thats there problem, they've only got maybe 5 games before the world cup..they need to be selecting there best squad minus the australian-irish.....and need to be forcing the likes of mcllorum into making a choice now instead of making the choice after being cut from the england sqaud...

that mr sunshine is being serious about international development and you should be aiming your whinges at mark ashton & the RLi.........not me

Yet Halifax agreed to release a player for the Wales vs France match.

If Ireland were playing a genuine international side, then your complaints would be valid. As it is, I would probably take the same stance as Harrison and any other coaches. This isn't an international match, it is a fairly bizarre exhibition game and far less important than any sort of competitive fixture.

It certainly looks that way especially with England selecting former Irish and Scottish internationals in their squads in recent years.

Looks good. It will be interesting to see how the Warrington boys go.

Also, its always good to laugh at the name Wayne Kerr.

You would thing the Irish team would be strong, given that everyone in the NW of England has some kind of link to them.

Smith would be one of the halfs i'd imagine. Probably next to Lomax, as Gaskell can't get a game for saints at the mo.

Stick Ratch at the back, Hardaker and McGillvary in the centres with Broughton and Riley on the wings. Not a bad backline there.
