Agreed. Any of these players playing in the NRL would be as ludicrous as Craig Gower returning to Australia's premier comp.

It is so true.

If you repeat the "NRL is full of quality players and the 'exiles' in the super league are rubbish and would not get a game in Aus" lie enough times, it seems some people actually believe it!

Steve McNamara has named his 20-man squad for next weeks "International Origin" game at the Halliwell Jones, Warrington.

The game will be shown at 8pm on SkySports 2HD in the UK and at 5am (Saturday 15th June) on Eurosport in Australia.

Full Backs: S Tomkins (Wigan), Z Hardaker (Leeds),
Wingers: J Charnley (Wigan), R Hall (Leeds),
Centres: L Cudjoe (Huddersfield),
5/8s: R Chase (Castleford), K Sinfield (Leeds, capt),
Halfs: R Myler (Warrington),
Props: E Crabtree (Huddersfield), C Hill (Warrington), A Morley (Warrington), L Mossop (Wigan),
Hookers: J Roby (St Helens), R Burrow (Leeds),
Second Rows: G Ellis (Hull), L Farrell (Wigan), B Ferres (Huddersfield), J Jones-Buchanan (Leeds), B Westwood (Warrington).
Locks: S O'Loughlin (Wigan),

Picking one centre is a brilliant decision.

Also picking old players and players just back from injury is also very good.

O'Loughlin is injured so the loose spot is open. Maybe stick Sinfield there with myler and chase in the halves?

Technical point (=a small matter), the is the English super league forum.
5/8s and locks? Do you walk down the sidewalks of Leeds?
Stand off and Loose forward if you don't mind son, or i'll set me whippet on ya!!

It's the Super League forum on the Australian League Unlimited Forum.

Get over it :D

It is my right as a RL fan from the North of England to never get over anything, ever.

The website says nothing about Australian anything ya 5/8 loving Aussie Hippy.

Ahem, anyways, back to the thread about the game.... :D

Im just being nice to the locals. If I used our positions they'd be that confused they probably walk out into moving traffic trying to figure what I was on about.

Craig Gower isn't coming back to the NRL to be a starting lineup player, he's coming back as a cheap back up and experienced senior player.

He'll be like Shaun Berrigan here at the Raiders, he'll be there just to guide the young players coming through and impart his knowledge and experience on them. Sure if there are a few injuries he might get a run, but for the most part he'll be playing in the NSWcup and acting as a counselor to the younger players.

Pretty much any of the older more experienced Super League players could get a job in the NRL this way if they really wanted to, they'd just have to be willing to play in the NSWcup or the Qcup and be pay'd a bare minimum wage, Adrian Morley, Lee Breirs and Jaime Pullcock come to mind as players that would be welcomed in this sort of role.

In other words it's a mutually beneficial retirement plan.

BTW did Gower ever play for the Exiles?

Honestly I think most of the exiles players would get a start somewhere in the NRL. I also think it should be along the lines of England v the rest of the world so French, Welsh players are involved. Bosc etc .. would certainly get a run.

Completely disagree. Briers and Morley (don't know who pullcock is), could never fulfill that role, having not gained the invaluable experience of playing rugby union for Italy.

No matter how farcical, all of it is experience in the business and that's all that matters.

Craig Gower has seen and done it all and that sort of experience is invaluable for a young NRL (or Super league) team. The hope that the Knights have in hiring him is that he will help keep the young players grounded, out of trouble and focused on their footy.

Hmm, no Scotty Dureau, does this suggest he's going to play for France or is he not fully recovered from the eye problems?

Dureau hasn't played for the past few weeks after being concussed, there's no way he would return prematurely to play in a meaningless match like this.

I can't remember where the eligibility criteria are for the Exiles, but I'm not quite sure I'm clear on what the rules are? Does anyone have a statement/link to make it clear?

Obviously the player has to be contracted to an ESL club.

It obviously doesn't exclude players who represent European countries, as Pat Richards is there as a guy who has only ever played for Ireland.

It obviously doesn't need a player to be counted as "Overseas Trained" either, the player can be brought up solely through the training systems in Europe, as with Harrison Hansen.

Yet it does appear to not count French or Welsh nationals...

If I were to make a guess, I'd say that you can play for the Exiles if
•You are contracted to an ESL team.
•You are any of the following:
Overseas Trained on the ESL quota OR Declaring oneself as eligible for selection by.. a non-European country? A SH country?

It doesn't make sense to me... :?. I don't get why it isn't just the heir of the "Other Nations" team - ie; If you haven't been selected for representative duties, you are available for the Exiles against any team you are not eligible for...

EDIT: Also, each team selecting one centre each for tonight. What the hell?
