Funny that about being a muso.

Didn't Liam Campbell win Footy Show Stoppers?, If he was such a good Muso he should have at least have been in the comp.

Eric stick with Footy!

I don't think theres anything wrong with what he's done/what he believes. If he doesn't want to play - no one is forcing him. Good on him for being honest and good luck to him with the music career. If I had a chance to live my dream - I'd do it anyway I could aswell.

Still prefered if he had at least gone about it a different way though. Informing the coaches beforehand etc. Rep footy might not be a big deal to him, but it is still a component of League and as a professional first grade player (and because it is his job) he should have at least had the deceny to tell them.

I'm sure anyone who is being payed a few hundred grand a year would ring up their boss to inform them if they weren't going to show up. It's just plain unprofessional not to do so.

But hey it's over now, put it behind us. We got the truth and Ricky's got his apology, lets not focus on the negative of int. footy anymore - more stories on those who are bleeding green and gold for their jersey I say!

Nothing wrong with that

But you don't see teachers go walk about do you ?

This is about being professional. He should had the professional & common courtesy to tell of his intentions.
He didnt go walk about from his job though did he.... Unless ofcourse he didnt turn up to first grade football duty.

as far as i know(and i could be wrong) he has no contractual obligations to play rep football. therefore professionaly hes done nothing wrong...

sure he could have had some manners and informed the selectors beforehand but as far as i can see he hasnt done anything wrong in a professional sense...

I dont remember seeing Eric on Showstoppers on the Footy Show. Why didnt he have a crack?

He should definately be black listed as far as rep footy goes. If there was a Dally M award for poor attitude or lack of commitment I would bet on E.G Jr.

I may not agree with his decision but it's his to make

As someone pointed out there is nothing in Grothe contract that mentions he has to commit to rep games, all he has a commitment too is Parramatta and he has.

As for the joke competition on the Footy Show, Eric saw it for what it was a popularity contest no a music talent contest.

i like it... Football is his job... Music is his passion... whats the problem with that??

i know people who are working as teachers to pay the way for there struggling music careers..

like i said in one of the other threads.. i havent seen anything from him that says hes been slack at club football... hes putting in at club level and thats all you can ask for...
rep football is not a requirement...

Yeah!!!

Go Eric!!

I agree Eric has every right to go walkabout. International footy is a pile of goat sh*t anyway, ricky stuart ran over some guys cat in 1991, music is cool, and eric grothe is a genius so therefore anyone who says anything bad about anything to do with eric can go scrub my car.

ps. go PARRA!!! (preliminary finalists in 07!!1!1!!!!)

OK maybe thats a bit weird but the point is if he isn't passionate about rep footy or footy in general then why should he cut short his time to go and train when realistically he will probably spend more time watching from the stands so the Australian selectors can fill their Bronco quota?

Never said he had to play, nor implied it.

But if you've been chosen to be part of a squad, and are expected to be present, you must let them know out of professional courtesy.

I really don't see how anyone could disagree with this.

This is no different then an employee missing a boadr meeting in whatever profession.

That's fair enough I spose.

But I still find it unprofessional, & plain rude.

At the end of the day Eric Grothe has to be honest to himself. Not anyone on here or the selectors or his colleagues at Parra. If footy is "just a job to pay the way for his music" and Parra are happy with the committment he shows them then the only problem I have is that he should have had the decency to let the powers that be know he's not interested in rep footy although surely it would earn him more money to carry on living his dream. His choice and his alone. A little late but thanks for the honesty Eric.

just on his actual music career... he wont want to quit football just yet. you get maybe 15years of football if your lucky... hes had about 6-7 years already... i think he will play as much football while he can to earn as much as he can then he can retire on a nice nest egg so he can go hard on his music career...

Props to Eric Grothe i know a few struggling musicians ekeing out a living working in factories/cafes and the like. Not bad have a job that pays you 200k+ a year and gives you time to pursue your real passions.

the grothes used to rehearse at the same studios my band rehearse at.

IMO they suck monkey balls from the few times i've listened.

He should stick to what he is good at - football.

I think EGJr is doing it for the chicks.
for some reason, women prefer muso's over atheletes.
in the words of eddie murphy..... "musicians get all the pussy"

Hmm well I appreciate his honesty and manners for apologising, but I'm not sure I'd like a player on my team playing footy to 'pay the bills'.

There are plenty of boys busting their humps to get into first grade,Eric is a very lucky boy for the talent he has however apparently it doesn't reach to singing or music ability.

So who is here to judge his musical ability? Ever listened to Eminem?

I'm saddened that this has cheapened the international arena, but it's not far removed from every player having of season surgery BEFORE the tests. It's these players that put test footy before trial footy.

At least Eric plays in trials!
