The list is not so much about guitaring skill, but MUSICAL skill.

That just means the people at Rolling Stone chose guitarists from their favourite bands.

And it means they're all morons as well.

Oh f**k off. I am a huge Nirvana fan, yes. I can also admit they are overated. But their music is way better than any other grunge band.

Really? I could have sworn that Alice in Chains wiped the floor with them. Oh, that's right, they did! As did Mudhoney. Pearl Jam were better too albeit nothing spectacular. Mad Season of course. Mother Love Bone. And then there are the other bands that came from that Seattle sound such as Soundgarden etc.

Jack white. JACK f**kING WHITE??

Get your hand of it RS. Would've been a joke if that merkin made the top 100, let alone the top 20.

Can't argue with Hendrix, Page and Clapton being in the top ten - but they should be the top 3.

Yeah I agree. I'm happy for the guitarists that had a genuine impact on GUITARING - such as those three - to be near the top of the list.

If Jack White made the list I couldn't have been far off myself ...

Now I like the Ramones.

I think their music was fun and very infectious.
They wrote some cracking punk pop songs.

...but I must say it wasn't the most technical stuff getting around.

Johnny Ramone getting a jersey @ 16 is a bit generous.

I think Edge should of rated higher.
He pretty much invented his own sound with that delay/chorus thing going on.
Maybe it wasn't the most difficult thing to do but it is his trademark and instantly recognizable.

Totally inept list when you look at it.
Hendrix at 1 is questionable as well...Satriani love him or hate him shytes all over Jimi as far as technical ability goes.

Yeah he does, as do many.

But The Edge? My personal tastes are copming out now - I'd rather go to the Dentist than listen to U2

yes your personal tastes are coming out.

You can't deny that he created his own sound .

A lot of other big hair guitarists are all the same...shyte hot but very very similar.

Eddie Cochrane is there (rightly so) but no Chet Atkins? WTF is with that sh*t!?

Obviously isn't considered because of his country music roots but to not include him is bloody ridiculous.

Regardless of your opinion of EVH i'm sure you'll agree he was very distinctive.

The "brown sound" lol

Yuh huh. So because you don't want to listen to it you want him off a large list?

I don't listen to a lot of the guys ahead of him on that list, but i'm not denying their place.

You're coming across as a bit of a wally

You're coming off as a bit of a Kiwi - which is worse?

The list is only of 100 guitarists - I'm quite certain there are more than 100 guitarists better than The Edge.

Good.

Now, surely nobody could seriously claim that The Edge is one of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time - apart from Rolling Stone of course.

It's like including Dave Grohl on the list of 100 greatest drummers.

You really need to pay a visit to reality.

brown sound?

I don't like the sound of that.

I have heard of the "blue" notes in guitar playing but brown sound ?
well that can only mean one thing.

Im with HevyDevy, the edge would not be anywhere near the top 100 and if he ever plays that friggin boring electrical storm or whatever song again that has that repetative crap melody I will surely throw him off a bridge if I ever see him.

The edge is the only "lead Guitarist" I know who plays a supporting role to the bassist.

I'm only going to argue the point once more before i go and discuss it rationally with pumpkin.

The Edge may not be the greatest guitarist. He's fairly good. See New Year's Day (i'm aware of the piano presence), The Fly, Bullet The Blue Sky, Mofo, Last Night On Earth, Vertigo Kite....etc

The fact is that U2 as a whole are largely better than the sum of its parts.

TBH i don't give a f**k anyway. The Edge still sounds better to me than anyone else on that list.

So this is a "rock" guitarists list then is it? Surely the guitarists who play the more rootsy/jazz/blues standards that inspired half these deserve a mention...
