One of my favourites of all time.

My favourite memory was winning a Grand Final after the siren (or PC-speaker beep!). The opposition (Manly I think) had scored a converted try to lead with only 10 seconds to go (from after their conversion). The wind was blowing straight across the ground, so from the kickoff, I kicked it into the wind and my winger or centre chased it, caught it on the full and scored in the corner with only a second or two left. My goalkicker (who was always the five-eighth) nailed it from the sideline and I won. This was -I think- only months after Newcastle beat Manly with only 6 seconds left in the '97GF, so it was as close as I got to replicating that moment!

Imagine they built on ARL 96 every year. 14 years on we would have an unbelievable rugby league game. Makes me a bit sad thinking about it!

HI Guys,

Can anyone help me out playing ETs Rugby League on WinUAE?

I've got the game running okay, but I can't seem to select an option from the menu.

I can move the hand cursor around with the arrow keys, but can't select an option. From memory it was the space key that chose an option, but that doesn't work. I think I've tried every key on the keyboard but nothing seems to select an option. Any ideas?

thanks

I don't know if this will work, but try looking at the keyboard mapping and see what the correct buttons are. I haven't used this yet but it's the only thing I can think of.

The main problem I had with ARL 96 was that my team never had the correct players in it... it always had false/made-up players. Probably had something to do with the Super League war... who knows. So I went in and manually changed the players names to reflect the correct lineup and the player/team stats go down making them a crap team.

Also... the Now Loading screen was painfully long back then.

Does this pic look familiar to anyone???

Yeah all the super league players had their names scrapped from the game. The Raiders Fullback was called Nicholls and was pretty unstoppable. Would have been based on Brett Mullins at the time.

I can't help you with ET's rugby league, but I bought a mega drive for my wife at Xmas along with a copy of ARL 96 and a couple controllers.

Best money I ever spent

The Mega Drive alone was worth it. Man I wished they called it the Genesis here... such an awesome name :)

I know I've succeeded at this in the past. Perhaps try mapping the joystick to your mouse.

FWIW, I find Kick Off and Kick Off 2 much more fun to play than the modern, 3D soccer games. Brilliant stuff. Try SuperCars2 while you are there, great Amiga game.

A lot of the modern games may be flashy but they can't match the simplicity and gameplay of some of the classics.
