Well when they have a shocker you can cheer and say see I was right.

You can cheer with Vas or sigurd whatever his name is.
Coast
It's not about cheering and saying i told you so, it's actually about avoiding that scenario.
I have locked horns with Benny V many times but not for 1 minute do I believe he wants a bad outcome nor does he want to crow.
He like many others is pointing out accepting the status quo (in our case not being competitive, playing unattractive and not making the semis on a continuing basis) in this day and age is not acceptable and therefore change is required.
A good question to ask yourself is how many more years in the wilderness are you willing to tolerate without dissenting?
For many that time is already at hand if not passed.

What I want for 2017 is a Dragons team that plays competitive and attractive football backed up by strong committed defence. Last year the team played hot and cold football and the two worst offenders Marshall and Rein are now gone thank heavens. Others may follow and hopefully the coaches will drop players who fail to perform. Last year we had changes to fullback, wing and centre which disrupted the team especially given that we had erratic players in the halves and at hooker. The day of the desperate, speculative pass must be over as we need to complete at least 80% of our tackle counts to be competitive. We do have the players to do that now and no excuses should be accepted. The coaches should be sacked if the players do not perform as non-performance indicates that the players are being ineptly coached, have a negative and defeatist attitude and are poorly recruited.

2017 will bring new challenges and I believe our team will compete.....for the Spoon!!!!
The coach, captain and spine will continue to be our Achilles heel in another wasted year. The club is not moving forward.....it's treading water only.

Agree mate nothing really changed as yet , if we were ready for a change Mary would not be there in 2017 . The only good thing is it wont last forever before changes happen . The biggest problem is time, the wasted time before it does . It could be the clubs downfall .....

I think that with Masoe, Sims and Vaughan added to our forward pack along with Host
and hopefully Leilua and new hookers the dynamics will be
improved. The backline will also be better with MacDonald on the wing, Hutchison replacing Marshall
who was running on one leg and relative newcomers Mann and Milne having settled in and beginning to fire.
Dufty, Herbert and Garrick will also be lurking in the background.
where does mann fit into the team?

So, is anyone still excited for 2017 after the only viable coaching option we had left signed with the Broncos?

BrissyRedV , I must admit I did have a ounce of excitement for 2017 , especially watching those last cutters games on Foxtel and seeing how the players responded to JD.
That flame got extinguished yesterday.
I really hoped that JD would takeover McExit .

Call me delusional or an optimist, but I'm really excited for 2017 and beyond.

The signings of Vaughan, McInnes, McDonald and Nona... Sims with a full preseason... No more Benji (though I wish him all the best) and Rein... I think there is hope there. Obviously held back by McBallsack and the board, but I really think the roster is heading in the right direction.

I don't think we'll witness amazing success, but fingers crossed JD gets his chance and we can see some positives on the horizon.

(Trying to shine a positive light on what has been an incredibly disappointing year).

Let bygones be bygones so they say... Up the dragons!!
Here's the opening post of this ridiculous, laughable thread.

Looks like JD is getting his chance alright. His chance to escape this sinking ship

Can we sink any lower and still think 2017 will be a stellar year? My bet is many assumed we had JD as interim coach, proved himself and got 2 year deal, or JD as interim coach in 2017, we sign some 'experienced' coach with JD as assistant...
So far it looks like all of these dreams are dashed...

Can anyone remember this club being at a lower point than it is right now? I can't....

We just lost the only coaching staff member who demonstrated any semblance of competence.

I'm not excited for 2017 at all. I'm actually dreading it. They should play all 26 rounds in the alternative jersey next year because the Red V does not deserve to be tarnished any more than it already has.

1996 pre season was scary.
The current situation isn't as frightening with Super League threatening the club's existence.
Let's hope the squad uses the adversity to fire up.
We have to support them more than ever.

I had visions of JD taking over from McHopeless by round 6, and was looking forward to see what we could do after that.

Now...my excitement has walked out the door with Demetriou.

Gippsy....maybe it will be Matt Head after round 6.
It will provide some of U20 team encouragement as he has worked with them.
I can accept a mediocre year if a few of them are blooded.

It will be Hornby or young. Matt head will no doubt still be in charge of the 20s
