Why are you so convinced that there is suddenly this huge talent pool of Union players in Australia that are NRL ready?
And I didn't say NRL ready. That centre for Roosters is a good example. Fringe first grade/ top 30 squad depth.
We're already getting them from Union successfully.
A salary cap exemption gives an incentive to bring more talent into our pool in greater numbers, which is going to be needed in the next few years.
If we do it soon, they might well be ready for regular NRL by 2027

I’m going to have to wait and see them actually come through with the salary cap exemption…this has been talked about for years and not yet introduced…. 2027 is the World Cup in Australia so they won’t be getting big names jumping that year …although could be a good time to push it for 2028

That's a bloody good point. Won't take much convincing post WC . If you sign the before the WC for 2028, that'll be a marketing genius.
The whole WC they'll be referencing this player at that a who they'll be playing for.
Genius.

That would be nice … but I suspect the Rugby Union would brush them from playing in the RWC out of spite if they signed with RL before the World Cup ..

The arrogance that I see in AFL fans is existent in this thread.

The belief that the only thing holding Union players to their sport is money.

Some not all.

I think in the not too distant future there will be even less loyalty to the game in New Zealand amongst the younger generation.

Depends on how much money..
Depends on the person, maybe some will go for less.
There's not a lot of Union players an NRL team will risk cap space on, it's a gamble.
Create a cap concession and you reduce the risk.
Some Union players might love the opportunity to try their hand at League, some have even been open about that.
But NRL clubs aren't offering lots of opportunities to untested Union players.

I think if you offered say $250k dispensation on the cap it would tempt NRL clubs to give more union players a chance.

I don't know what the figure should be but I do know it'll help at a time we need it.
Not since 1995 have we seen more than one team entered with a big gap till the next one. Going to be interesting to see how the two new clubs build a roster and how much it takes away from the existing 17 clubs talent pool. It does seem clubs are already increasingly looking to the SL for players.
