You only need 200 seats for C1 and Hemel I believe are planning on getting a stand with about 500. Nottingham's is alright but not as good as Cov's. They're moving to their old pro ground. Not necessarily with any aim to join C1 though, they're currently wanting to play top northern amateur clubs. Not sure about Northampton and Bristol. Wilderspool is good enough for C1. Think Coventry's is the only one good enough to step up again to the Championship but it's too small for SL.

Great to see the trolls still arguing for union in Manchester.

Maybe someone will eventually be convinced. lol

I see some historical examples will be required after all to put the issue in some perspective.

#1

The 1950 Championship Final, with Wigan down 8 players on tour, was won handsomely by Wigan over Huddersfield 20-2 before a crowd of 65,000 at Maine Road.

Plenty more to follow in due course.

Yes, a sport must be huge in Manchester because it got a big crowd 61 years ago.

Smart guy.

Example #2 (random).

2010 Super League Final. 71,526 attendance.

Wigan were superb.

Start on your union crowds in Manchester at your leisure. We'll want to see a similar spread of major attendances across the 20th Century and the early part of this one.

lol

Wilderspool need renovating unless Warrington Council can build a small ground for Wizards/Woolston?

No chance on either i'm afraid.

Wilderspool is just about standing so can be used but if the Wizards were to go well they could always ground share at the HJ. There is a the football ground which they could use, Warrington Towns, but they woud lose a lot of balls in the canal!

The current Wizards team used to be Woolston but when the switch came to sumer rugby Woolston didn't want to do it so they reformed as a new team and the Wizards took over.

Also it woud be ironic as the team actually once earned promotion to the league but was denied a place as the RFL decided that Warrington couldn't handle two league teams. :x

Yeah the first year of the National Conference League Woolston Rovers were supposed to replace Highfield but it got narrowly voted out largely with the excuse it would be another Warrington club. Yet Highfield were another St Helens club and absolute rubbish and we missed the best chance yet for a pyramid. When they made all the announcements on the team top stepping up Hemel were currently top of the league (the plan was they'd play at St Albans City if they won). In the end the only NCL club to ever step up was Chorley Borough who got elected after finishing 2nd and 3rd in successive seasons (Woolston won the first 3)

They played as Warrington Woolston Rovers 2003 and 2004 then Warrington Wizards from then on. The new Woolston Rovers are progressing up the leagues fast, up to NWCL division 1 next year (though with all the summer decisions not certain yet all league lineups in winter are subject to change).

Yeah it was a bit of a shame but i suppose rugby in Warrington at that time was not like it is now. Wire were going bust and they feared a new team would maybe drag a few hundred supporters away (at that time a few hundred would of been a significant percentage). They also were not helped later on when some d*ckheads burnt down the old changing rooms at bennets rec.

I would like to see the Wizards changing back to Woolston Rovers merging all the best players and the Wizards name kept for the u20s team. The rec could be developed a bit (a few hundred seats is not a lot, they can steal them from Wilderspool when they tear the place down) and the Wolves get a good team to send there dual code players to. They can replace Widnes as a feeder club.

I remember when Woolston played Warrington in the cup one year. That was a good laugh.

Yeah, though if they were rejected for C1 they could merge with Woolston (Warrington Woolston Rovers name again) and join the NCL, they'd soon get promoted back up the divisions there again. The issue is would Woolston want to merge?

But good idea on taking seats from Wilderspool

I'm pretty sure they would. They would become the towns second team, improve on and off the pitch and still keep there name and colours (green and gold by the way).

I thought of the seats because thats what Warrington Town AFC did when Maine road (Cities ground) was ripped down. Despite playing in Yellow and Blue all the seats are light blue!!

Example #3.

Let's go back even a bit further to emphasise the SPREAD of crowds in Manchester for rugby league.

Why not pre-War?

Salford were the dominant club side of the 1930s in the northern hemisphere. Castleford met them in a massive Championship Final, again played at Manchester's Maine Road.

This time a crowd of (only) 69,504 was in attendance for the 1938-39 Championship Final.

More examples to follow...

They're talking of letting clubs like Warrington Wizards into the Southern Conference. Can't say I'm convinced it will work if I'm honest

Did I tell you or what, EH?

lol

Example #4.

Say when...

Surely one of the greatest ever rugby league events in Manchester, note the name of the city, would be the 1948-49 Championship Final, again played at Maine Road.

Huddersfield and Warrington were both formidable sides and a massive crowd of 75,194 descended on the Manchester ground to see the likes of the genius Brian Bevan on the wing for The Wire (good name for a TV show perhaps).

One of the all-time great rugby league finals ended in 13 - 12 with Huddersfield taking the trophy home.

Did you tell him what?

Example #6, NFL sold out Wembley, therefore it must be Britain's no.1 sport.

Picking random once-a-year crowds tells you absolutely nothing about anything. In the statistics world they're called "anomalies". They show nothing, so if you want to keep posting random examples (I particularly enjoy you trying to prove a point by using figures from over half-a-century ago, like that's credible!) then that's up to you, but you're only making yourself look stupid and not really helping your argument at all.

Think the troll decided to interpret my post about Warrington Wizards and the Southern Conference as me claiming RU 'dominates' Manchester or something equally ludicrous as noone actually has mentioned the subject for a week or two:roll::lol:

If the Wizards climbed their way into Ch1, what crowds would they get and would they be classed as Wolves feeder club?

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Would be interesting to see how he came to that conclusion!
