Sure its a stretch. The song was no more 'prominent' than any of the other songs in that film, Jamie Foxx appeared in the clip because it is his voice featured in the song (he had also worked with Kanye on his first album - pre-dating his Oscar success) and the bare vocal loop used was mashed into different lyrics.

Calling him merely a lazy producer is also inaccurate. Three criticially acclaimed commercially successful albums and a stack of plaques and awards in only three years says otherwise.

They're celebrations of mediocrity. In-fact, mediocre is probably being far too kind.

Bands with talent can't get airplay these days - it's not a marketable quality.

Not that I'd call them crap but certainly that was their best period by a long way.

Yeah true, mentioning awards was a mistake and does not strengthen my argument. Kanye does like winning them though, and is prone to tantrums when he doesn't.

Actually the ARIAs the other night was the perfect example of how bad these awards are. Without fail, in every category, it was completely predictable which bands would be nominated. Generally the same bands as last year and the year before that and no doubt next year too.

It's as if the ARIAs are only aware of the existence of about 5 bands in the entire country.

It's just a matter of "I wonder who will win best band this year - silverchair or Powderfinger?"

sadly it is a vote for thing....that is why they win.
I reckon Silver chair deserve it for at least trying something different.
Fuggen powderfinger dish out the exact same formula every song.
That Fanning character would be quite well off for it too I'd imagine.

Any band or individual who thinks Paul Mac is cool should have their award taken away from them.

Silverchair well actually Daniel Johns pissed me off talking up how they had won more awards than Chisel AC/DC etc. Ignoring the fact that the ARIAS did not even exist when Chisel was around and that AC/DC's first and only award was into the Hall of Fame because they had already been successful for a very long time.

Anywho rant over. Back to topic

I don't expect what I like to be there, I just can't believe that the bands nominated are generally the turd of the turd. There's a lot of very good music out there - don't know why the worst of it wins all these awards.
