I dont understand why it wasnt a full course yellow with pace car deployed before they even tried to bring the crane onto the track.. It was pissing down rain making it more dangerous as soon as the other car hit the wall they should have been all over it slowing the cars down..

I know most of the time they can remove the cars without a safety car but that is in the dry and where the possibility of another car coming off is a very low percentage..

this is a very good point.

Apparently only the racing director (I believe) is the the only person to make the call on when a safety car is deployed.

Nope, definitely Green.

You can see it in the top right of the screen in this video before Bianchi crashes

Even after the crash he still waves the green.. Colour blind perhaps?

Apparently they have the yellows showing up on the drivers wheel.

Is he the same idiot that didnt want to move the race 3 hours forward?

Not sure who made the decision to pander to Honda's refusal to change the race time.

I can't see how FIA could possibly lose a debate about a race time reschedule with a sponsor.

FIA has the product that the sponsors want to be attached to.

Negotiations should go along the lines of
FIA: We want to start the race earlier to avoid the bad weather
Sponsor: No, we don't want to risk losing money on ticket sales
FIA: Okay, you have two options. 1. We start the race early or 2. We cancel the race and never come back here ever again.

FIA has shitloads of money and exposure, hence why sponsors want to be involved in it.

If the FIA threatens to cancel a race so as to ensure driver safety, then such a noble reason will ensure that they won't cop much bad press, if any at all.

But if it goes ahead, the FIA is the only one copping the shit and the sponsor gets off scot free.

Motorsport is dangerous. It says so on the tickets

The FIA can try to minimise the risk of freak occurrences like this happening, but they will never be able to eliminate it

Two (2) more Meters to the left he would have killed the official on the track trying to remove the other car, They need to stop allowing people on the track to remove cars unless there is a safety car deployed or the car is in a position that it will not come in contact with another car having an accident.

change rules also so that as soon as there is a yellow flag, cars can only travel at a certain speed (say 60/80kph which is the pit lane speed I believe)

Sure. My point is that you can never eliminate risk entirely

As shown in Melbourne about ten years ago when a tyre went through the fence and killed a marshall

This one was avoidable. Even within the existing regulations it was avoidable.

Leaving a car on the side of the track is also a hazard though...

Full course yellow get pace car on track, Drivers see on waved yellow flag they dont slow down they just dont pass on that section..

They still have to lift off the acceleration and not set a time comparable to what they would under racing circumstances but how much slower they have to be before they get penalised I'm not sure but I'm thinking its not very much?

I'm sure I've see from time to time drivers copping a penalty for it or maybe qualifying I'm thinking of as I know if yellows come out during qualifying it will ruin a drivers lap time as they have to lift.

He died in the arse during the race though.

Unbelievable work by Rosberg to make his tyres last 52 laps.

Such a boring race usually you see the mid pack scuffle for positions but not today..

Toro Rosso is a shitbox. Burns too much fuel while going slower than the others.

Great track. Rosberg's drive was amazing. Contrast what happened with Massa with a similar predicament and similarly fast car.

I think most of the races where there's only 1 pit stop tend to be dull.

It doesn't help when the Mercedes engined cars are so far ahead of the competition.

16 races this year and only 3 of the drivers have won a race (Hamilton, Rosberg and Ricciardo)

Thats been the biggest issue plaguing the F1 this year imo
