"Fan comments" in Daily Telegraph re Nate Myles

The Daily Telegraph seems to put in these alleged NRL fan comments to support their articles whenever there is a big (ie. negative) story in NRL. They are all the same variety of "i've been a supporter for 78 years but will stop watching NRL completely due to this incident".

It just reminds me so much of testimonials from dodgy websites like "John Smith from Texas says..."

Do you think they are legit. Genuine NRL fans wouldn't write most of that drivel.

Cringe worthy, yes.
Vomit worthy, watching people on the Footy show clap Magnay for her so called scoops.

They probably are real, but they're cherry picked from a vast array of "this won't affect my love of Rugby League" (which is often the opinion I hear out in the real world) because they can't stir the pot with that.

i have tried numerous times to leave comments on NRL articles and they hardly if ever get posted yet there's always a heap from AFL and Soccer fans getting on as well as ones that say people will now stop following the game

i've even tested by leaving negative comments about League and they get on nearly every time within 20 minutes

some Soccer and AFL comments

What Scum these NRL Players are !!!! Bring on A- League and god only hopes that Football Soccer continues to grow. THere are so few NRL players , yet most of them seem to be in the headlines every day ........Scum not worth watching ........

Thank god sportsmen from the A-League don't act like a bunch of grubs day in, day out. What a bunch of losers NRL players are. No wonder the sponsors are ready to run from this sport. I certainly wouldn't want my product associated with these morons and it won't be long before other sponsors pull the pin on this circus either.

LOL. I love how Rugby League continues to manipulate the sports page with frat boy antics. If I was in marketing for Union or AFL I would be using this opportunity to take customers away from League grabbing the families and sports fans that actually have values and weren't raised by chimpanzees! Great roll models... I will keep my family FAR FAR AWAY from NRL in the future!

That West Sydney AFL team is looking stronger by the day. Thanks NRL players - your game is as crap as some of the players in it.

By doing anything other than ripping up his contract and suspending him from the game the NRL is condoning his actions. If a stance isnt made now, when will one be made..?? Can the NRL define exactly what does need to occur for a player to be sacked..?? How far must they go..?? The fact that Nate Myles is offering any kind of excuse just shows that he 100% doesnt get it. How many people have been in a hotel before with a stomache..?? How many of those people manage to find a toilet with just going in a hallway like some kind of untrained animal..?? The NRL has now lost me forever. I will no longer ever watch or attend another game. Its time to start following the AFL and Union.

"Brett from Sydney' comments confirm he follows this boring game and its simple players. You have to learn to spell correctly. Why woul I wan't to meet every one of these meathead players???. You probably have not travelled out of Sydney before as AFL is massive in just about every city and state in this country, not just Melbourne? Please don't compare the NRL or 2 city game to AFL every time a player toilets himself in public as the AFL is light years ahead in every way as the NRL implodes.

That's it after 45 years of following and enjoying this former great game, I am apalled at the stupidity and moronic behaviour of the idiots that currently play. Bring on the new AFL side in Western Sydney and if the ARU saw fit to give some support to Western Sydney sides then I would support them. I am no longer going to defend you idiots: I shouldn't have to anyway, sad, sad, sad.

yep. agree. it's like talkback radio, its always the people with the most extreme opinions that get air time.

it's all about getting hits and website traffic. the negative stories about league generate alot of interest. unfortunately.

the thing is, i dont think any amount of gross player scandals will stop a true league fan watching the game. it may turn off people with a passing interest though.

This is based on nothing, but IMO even if NRL players were sqeaky clean & did nothing wrong, the number of NRL fans would NOT increase.

I'd even go as far as saying there would be less lol.

There is no doubt most of the 'I will never watch NRL again' brigade are fans of other sports trying their best to make a difference for their own code.

It's probably some AFL fan boy who has to moderate the comments. Thus why pro-RL ones don't get through. Actually it's probably Rebecca Wilson's job when she isn't writing drivel articles.

Those "I'll never watch Rugby League again" comments are somewhat like hungover thoughts of "I'll never drink that much again".

For the 0.5 seconds that it takes to press submit, the person, if indeed they are fans of the sport, probably has got the sh*ts (pun definately intended)

But about half a second after that they regret pressing send.

Like the siren song of beautiful, tempting beer, Rugby League has an attraction that being too old for getting drunk and fighting in night clubs, spit roasting a chick or crapping in the corridoor of a hotel cannot taint.

It doesn't matter how much people wished they were still young enough to do these things - the jealousy of young men having fun times will give way to the curiosity of "I wonder how so and so are going against so and so" and the channel is changed and the tones of Phil Gould seep out the speakers with "no no no no no - I can't believe they just did that"

Rugby League. It'll never die!

Absolutely but there's also a minority of RL fans who smell an opportunity to stick it into a club they don't like.

Although, being a Roosters fan, I've never experienced this personally.

After all, everyone to a man loves us to bits. We're everybodies second favourite team.

comments like, That's it after 45 years of following and enjoying this former great game, I am apalled at the stupidity and moronic behaviour of the idiots that currently play " are total crap

if you followed NRL for over 20 years, you wouldn't turn your back on the game because of a few isolated incidents.. if you, did you ever followed the game in the first place

I'm a little over this "you must love the game" stuff. bit like "love the Drake" stuff from Seinfeld.

Fact is - a lot about rugby league that used to make you "love" the game (the tradition, local passion, rivalry, competition from more international sport) was lost when the weak pricks who ran the game agreed to let the Murdoch turds buy rugby league to boost their own profits. This led to traditional clubs being killed off and loyalty disappearing in favour of just making money.

If a player genuinely respected his club and teammates, he would be much more careful in his off-field behaviour. You don't need a PhD to know that (1) too much grog could affect your playing ability or capacity to heal injury and (2) too much grog robs you of 100% control which can cause problems.

What these players have done happened because they just didn't care enough about the consequences because they really didn't care that much about their club and their mates.

yeh i agree to an extent. i mean i can't imagine anything will ever stop me following league, but i definitely cant understand why Nate and co would go out drinking till 4am when their team is a) bottom of the ladder and b) had been in trouble for drinking incidents a week before.

oh well, whats done is done. hopefully they learn from it.
