...now.I can't remember being this pished off about whats happening to the Raiders, since fn ever.
I'll boil it down to one thing.
He wants out but he is going to be committed to the end of the season and is looking forward to the Titans game.
Selfish farker.
Punt him to Souths Logan.
If he was a player who did what hes done he'd be shipped up to them. Why should he be any different.

What do people think about David Furner here?? Gonna be the next coach I'd say, at least he won't be likely to ditch us. He also played under some great coaches.

This guy makes Matt Elliott look like the greatest coach in teh world. I have never felt so deflated in my 18 years as a Raiders supporter. Neil Henry has basically just spat on everything this club has built over the course of its existence and walked away. F**king goat.

Now, onto management. What a bunch of incompetent f**king merkins. To come out and say we would insist on Henry completing his contract till 2009... and then to turn around like a bunch of f**king spineless turds and let him go... what a bunch of village idiots. If David Furner is appointed coach I will personally come to Raiders HQ and castrate simon hawkins.

Todd Carney has every right to feel betrayed.

Of course, none of these comments applies if Henry has some sort of terminal illness in his family or something similar which requires him to go back to NQLD. Otherwise... he is the lowest of the low. Get f**ked, you wanker.

I can see it now. Murray leaves Cowboys in the next month, replaced by Henry. Trouble continues at the Panthers and Elliott is released. Raiders management in their wisdom sign Elliott to a 5 year deal.

Sorry, I was looking at worse case scenario's.

As posted at the GH

Dear Management,

I have not always been a staunch supporter of your decisions and I would suggest at times that my emotions and blind love for all things Canberra Raiders override clarity, but I believe in this case of enforcing the final year of Neil Henry’s contract we may be committing a huge blunder based on a similar blind pride and emotion, rather than any basis of clarity or foresight.

The prime reason to let the guy go is that how can we expect players to commit to the club long term if the coach doesn’t want to be here for the long haul and is in effect playing out the days. Pride in personal performance would dictate that there would not be total abandonment of desire in Neil’s coaching, but there would be an unspoken and undeniable lessening of intensity. The previous coach at the club signed elsewhere for the next season and spent the last month or two clearly spotting talent for Penrith whilst he should have been committed 100% to the Raiders cause. I rate Neil higher than Matthew Elliott but there is no denying that he may perhaps resent not being released and that could have a diabolical effect over the next 18 months.

Secondly whilst I am aware we do not have the greatest list of household names on the roster we are a side who has pride in the effort and winning against all odds. Neil’s record of 11 wins from 27 outings (a paltry 40% strike rate) is even for a coach in the beginning of his career a very poor strike rate, and perhaps we may be over-selling how talented our coach really is. In 2007 there were decisions which may have affected results but 14th is still a poor result by any standard. There is no doubt we play a slightly more attacking game than under Elliott, but there is still over-sized servings of 5 hit ups and a kick rather than several passes and cut-outs mixed in the set.

I understand that as a club we are proud that we have not sacked a coach, and have had all coaches fulfil their contract but there is always going to be a first time down the track and this may be the time to bite the bullet and plan for our future, as it is likely the Cowboys have made their decision and will wait for Neil. I believe it would be prudent to swallow our pride on this issue and look for a suitable replacement now whilst there are several viable options such as Ian Millward, Graeme Murray, and Daniel Anderson. If we hold on for 12 months these fine options may be employed elsewhere and we may be left with slim pickings as at the end of 2006 where Chris Anderson was the only tried senior coach available.

I believe as a management team the effort in securing Todd Carney was a major effort and worthy of all plaudits and it would be a shame to see management take as step backwards by grasping onto Neil Henry who by all accounts wants to go back to North Queensland. The guy wants out, let’s release him and get someone who wants to be here and can apply 100% of their heart into the job. I am casting no aspersions on Neil’s character or integrity but it is only human nature that if your heart is elsewhere you cannot apply yourself 100% to the cause at hand.

We're seeing with the Cowboys right now that is doesn't work to have a coach hanging around when he won't be coaching the next season. Get him out of here, the sooner the better.
A temp coach like Furner would be better than having that dishonourable maggot hanging around.

Memo to Neil Henry: Get f**ked you motherfu**ing f**k head.

I have never, ever, EVER felt this let down in my entire time as a Raiders fan. Not even Finch, Wiki or Schifcofske leaving compares to this.

We pulled this guy from f**king obscurity and he uses us like a f**king step to go back to the Cowboys.

What an amazing bastard. f**k him off to become coaching director at Souths Logan and let Furns run us for the rest of the year. At least we know he wont stab us in the back.

Next season, no f**king about management. Sign John Lang or Graham Murray and give them a long term deal.

What a total c***.

And with so many players off contract as well.

Two problems there....

1. If he decides to coax a few players with him.
2. Players with uncertainty lying ahead, scouting early and deciding to jump ship elsewhere.

Piss poor effort though even to be making these sort of deals now. It's been said but what is a contract worth?

Who's going to have the say now with player retention?

Management have to get serious here.At this moment they are letting NH finish this year.Another year to be around several players who are off contract or will be off contract in the next 5 years,NH contract duration.Zillman,TLL,weyman etc, young promising players who are a must to keep.Sure,we wont keep them all,we never do.
But i recall Don Furner at the start of 2007 saying we had the squad to win the comp in the next few years.
Heres a chance to stamp some real leadership Don.Punt NH straightaway. Its a recipe for slackness if you don't.Theres no way the players are going to look at him with the respect they should have for the coach.I mean he's dumped them. And yet we are expecting them to carry on like nothings happened.

There's a fair few coaching options out there but I like the idea of Johnny Lang. He's good with a young squad and has achieved early results with both Cronulla and Penrith. We can't afford to keep rebuilding and I think this guy could get us up the ladder earlier. Just my thoughts.

basically boys, get ready to kiss our qld players goodbye as the trot off to nq.

henry isn't the great coach people seem to think he is. he’s an average coach that was made to look like sunshine came out his ass because of his predecessor. any one of the coaches off contract at the end of the year (except the great unclean one) will do the job henry would have done.

David Furner will make a great coach. He has earnt his chance to have a go at it. You would not get a more passionate Raider anywhere.
His heart is in the job..and his experience holds him in good stead.
Very disappointed in Neil Henry. Again it raises the question "What is the value of a contract"..
Go Furnsie....

PS What odds Snoopy Collins comes into the mix????

Right now I'm beyond caring whether Henry is here or not for the rest of the season but I am worried about the players and whether they will be committed for the remainder of 2008.

After this I think we can write off Zillman ever playing for us again but hopefully we can still retain some of the other key players off contract.

It's a slap in the face to all of the fans. I just hope he gets his just deserts by inheriting a bunch of spineless whingers up in Townsville ala Matt Elliott in Penrith. All I can say is he's one dodgy Thurston shoulder away from oblivion up there.

The board should have denied his release and as soon as the Cowboys appointed someone else sacked the prick to screw over him and the dirty team he's going to. If he poaches any of our players he's even more of a sorry bastard.

A complete lack of character, respect, integrity and class is all I can say right now. And to think many of our fans kicked in their hard earned to help pay for his fine last year.

Hopefully Mal drops you like a dirty rag for the Origin gig too.
