Fastest man in the NRL?

Ryan Cross was another one, he just seemed to glide, looked slow but was going very very quick.

Then you have guys like Daniel Fitzhenry & Shannon Hegarty, who look like they are moving quick but going nowhere.

Im a big Tybo fan, he struggled coming back from injury this year, but watch out next year.

But he has NO business being on the list of "fast" NRL players in the first post.

I doubt Inglis is even in the top 20. Nowhere near one of the fastest imo. Zillman and Ty Williams also do not belong in this discussion.

Also, a 4.3s time for 40m is bullsh*t. That would probably put you in the lead in the Olympic 100m final, and even if you SLOWED DOWN (for whatever reason) you'd probably still run 10.3s or less for the 100m. I put those sort of readings down to dodgy timing. I doubt it's possible for a guy to run less than about 4.5 unless he can run the 100m in less than 10s.

Also...the concept of "fastest in the NRL" is a bit of a nonsense. There are probably 20 guys in the comp who run 40m in anywhere between 4.5 and 4.8s (approx) depending on how they are on the day. You could pit them against each other 10 times and get 10 different winners. Furthermore, there are probably 40 or 50 guys, including props and backrowers etc, who can run 40m in around 5 seconds or less. If a player stands out as being exceptionally fast it's probably because of balance, agility and acceleration.

Cross was still returning from injury. Best demonstration of Cross in full flight was V Sharks last year, he burst onto a wide pass, left Darren Albert for dead.

I reckon in the grand-final Michael Robertson had Inglis easily covered for speed but the fend was just too much. Actually, I recall several times this season Inglis making a half-break and not backing his speed at all.

I think Inglis has a number of similarities to Peachey and this is one of them- like Peachey, he always gives the impression he is on a casual stroll, and that he could run faster- but he actually can't. That is as fast as he can run.

Inglis has another gear.

Watching him play fullback in the QLD cup was awesome, teams often made breaks within their own half (because of the flimsier defence) but Inglis always chased them down easily even with a headstart.

and some players are faster over 100m. i wouldn't be surprised if the fastest over 40m could be the biggest front rower in the competition, but i wouldn't call them the fastest player in the nrl.

I definitely wouldnt put Ty Williams in this list, 2 years ago he was bloody quick but since his reco has lost a lot of pace, Matt Bowen on the other hand is right up there.

Id probably go with Inglis/Slater/Bowen/Stewart/Roberts as my top 5, not sure on the order though

Michael Crockett beat Slater over 40 and 100 metres during his time with Melbourne. That was before Inglis came on the scene. I think I remember Crockett being the fastest at Wests when he was there as well.

Apparently Matt Geyer is faster than Slater over 100m

Also, apparently (according to Geyer in a Big League interview) Sam Tagatese is the fastest over 40m at the Storm

Willie Mason.

He's also got the best off-load, is the best field goal exponent, has a mean 40-20, and is the master of the mousetrap play.

Oh yeah, and he's about to become a professional boxer. The man can do it all.

When Inglis made a break v Roosters last year, he broke the line at halfway, Roberts was trailing by 50 metres, by 5 metres from the tryline, Roberts caught Inglis but couldn't bring him down before the line. Watching those two fly at full pace was amazing, i've never seen Roberts turn it on like that, he flew.

Lol, I was at that game, Roberts was up in the D-line from a scum at the Storms 40m. So unless Roberts was in the Storms in-goals tying his shoelaces theres no way he gave Inglis a 50m headstart.

Inglis actually brushed him aside from the scrum and may have got 5-7 metres on Amos but despite the fact he was carrying the ball and looking over his shoulder he had him covered.

Nice points.

Also it would depend on what point of the season they raced; the different loading of training ie weights as opposed to aerobics, match play or no match play, would all affect the results.

And of course the quickest players on the track are not necessarily the quickest on field, because positioning and football instincts come in to play.

Greg Inglis surely wouldnt have ever beaten Shane Whereat in a formal sprint; but Whereat never scored the type of tries Inglis has.

Sorry mate thats a typo, Inglis made the break at the 50 metres, Inglis had 15 metres on Roberts. If you watch, Roberts tumbled when he gets palmed off, by the time he gets going, Inglis is about 35 metres away.

It was stil a great chase, nonetheless. Don't see too many of those anymore.

How about Nate Myles catching Steve Turner when Roosters played Storm?

GOLD.
