Fat Feka from Wigan in assault scandal!

I nearly spat my tea out tonight when I heard the presenter struggling with Feka's surname as he attempted to tell us he'd been arrested for grevious bodily harm on a poor bus driver.

The bus driver was so badly beaten that he received a broken jaw and is going to require specialist treatment to correct his face.

The facts of the incident are absolutely bizarre. What on earth was a highly paid international rugby league player doing at a Wigan bus station at 5am on the night they had been knocked out of Super League's playoff series by Leeds? Surely he would have been travelling back on the official club coach and been tucked up in bed with his bible by midnight?

Rugby League is really outdoing itself in the UK at the moment. We have mass crowd violence at the Grand Final, a player arrested for causing grevious bodily harm and to top it off the RFL today took great delight in stating that the All Golds v Northern Union game will now be the curtain raiser to the Union World Cup Final which will be shown on the big screen from full time. All at a time when Union is enjoying amazing mass coverage from all forms of media in the UK.

I don't what the consensus is like over there but the majority of league fans in Aus would be appalled if the ARL did such a thing. I hope everyone walks out after the main fixture.

I think they're just trying to get a crowd to come to this exhibition game... some people may be swayed by the fact they couldn't make it from the ground to their local pub to watch the RUWC in time, this just gives those people a chance to watch it in a crowd setting with drinks AND come to the NU v All Golds game.

Keep in mind that we have to put up with blanket media coverage of the England v France game all week in the lead up, whereas the NU v All Golds game can't crack any decent publicity. Bloody Wallabies could've fixed all that a few weeks ago :fist:

True. Plus no one in Australia really cares about union. You could be forgiven for thinking that it hasn't started yet if you lived down here and I'm in Sydney! I'm surpised that the WC gets much coverage up north (as in northern England).

Rugby Union is preached in much the same way as countries like Iraq and China used their TV networks to peddle anti-American hatred.

The media coverage of Union in this country is political propaganda. It is cynically mass marketed. Everything on TV is "The official cooking programme of the rugby world cup" or "The official razor partner to the England Rugby Union team" and it is literally advertised throughout any news broadcasts. They mention the billions of fans that will watch the game during the intro, the hundreds of thousands who have invaded France during a live report from the Eiffel Tower and they mention how the country is standing still in anticipation of Sir Johnny kicking the country to glory at the weekend during the sport section, along with a detailed report down to the swinging momentum of the testicle on Wilkinson's kicking leg! The weather report at the end then shows the weather for the weekend over Paris.

Whether the country gives a toss is another matter. The north, as a whole, certainly doesn't. There are too many diverse interests and pass times now for any sport bar football to really catch the imagination anymore. League never does and Union, despite the hype in the media doesn't either. For example all the local supermarkets in Warrington, Liverpool and Manchester were filled with Union World Cup merchandise when it started, and they are still there now, only for a tenth of the price because no one wants it. No one has done any commercial analysis of the reasons for doing this, the main men at the supermarkets are all upper class people who want to peddle their filth onto the rest of us. Same with the media, it's full of a certain class of person that will warp media coverage to suit their own means. This is best displayed by how media coverage of the World Cup has completely and utterly overshadowed the performances of the England football team of late, which is ridiculous given that football is the biggest sport by an enormous margin.

I'm a Springbok for a day at the weekend. It shouldn't be like that really, I certainly wouldn't want England to lose were it not for the vomit inducing over exagerration about their cultural importance to the English people.
