Hurrell
Blackmore
Vagana

Hon Mentions - Carlaw, Toopi

I always saw Brent 'no pass' Tate as a winger, i dont think the guy ever set up his winger once playing there for us. Looking forward to seeing Laumape playing his natural position as a centre this weekend too. People often forget that the guy is still pretty new to league as well

Vinnie A
Carlaw
Toopi/Tate

Though I thought Koopu v manly was great.
I cant recall Bell playing in the centres for us, I seem to remember him playing more lock/second row.

Then you look at the centres who will likely not be remembered in future times

Meti toovao

Ryan Shortland ...iirc wasn't he another former storm player, and ended up at the highlanders with Michael Witt.

David Myles.

Tony Martin...I can only remember him as the goal kicker who couldn't reach the posts from the sideline...slow as a sloth on valium...and named his kid Tana

Yeah I didn't think Myles was that bad.
Not the best player in the world but he was a trier.

More than half of that centres list is garbage, which really goes to show how bad our rosters were until about 2001.

Have not been fond of any of our centres beyond John Carlaw and also Simon Mannering when he first started there.

Obviously Tate was decent but he was injured too much and a bit of a hungus. Gave me horrendous flashbacks to pickup league matches on the schoolyard.

haha yeah man Tate in a Warriors Jersey was a Myth. Top Center in the game....but if you try find a highlight of him wearing a Warriors Kit it's a rare thing indeed.
I remember when he was leaving and the League shows would show Tate dedication highlight reels.....I think there was perhaps one play where he was wearing our colors.....otherwise as great as he was....very little game for what we paid.

Still , a great signing and well loved by fans , a real big name for a change.

I used to laugh when he would scream at Locke on defence then miss the next tackle himself too.....but the saddest thing about Tate was that he never passed Locke the ball.....same issue Manu has with Nielson.

Well the highlight package is going to be skewed when you play 3 times the amount of games for a star studded club winning premierships to getting ball from Fien/Witt/Moon/Jones. I thought Tate pretty much did what was expected from him, including the injuries.

The only two seasons he played here he made the Australian side both times at the end of the season.

True Eddie...still it was meant to be a Warriors highlight package , but your point still stands.
Just stirring the pot here , I know Tates well regarded by people who know a lot about the game :).
I loved the idea of Tate , but he used to frustrate me by not treating Locke like say one of his Origin Buddies when Locke was screaming up on the outside in the clear.
Otherwise he was solid

Tate didn't pass much, but he was still light years ahead of Nielson in that he'd make damaging runs and do his job on defence. He was crucial in getting us over the line in games such as the Storm playoff 2008.

Nielson defended well last year but anything with the ball in hand just flopped and died.
Was willing to live with it until he actually became an attacking liability.

Tate barely played with the Moon/Jones combo, but the pairing sucked and your point stands.

Would we rate Tate ahead of Hurrell as a Warrior ?

Hurrells played with the worst Warriors team in the history of the clubs records

I've got Hurrell probably standing out all things considered above Tates Warrior time.

The Tate that played Elsewhere , that form , I'd go for over any other center we've ever had.

Uh what? Are you talking about 2012?
I know it was a horrible year but the players on the park were pretty decent.

We've had *much* worse teams out there.

2012 to the first half of 2013 the Warriors broke several of their own records and one of the all time NRL records , stuff like Biggest loss, Most consecutive Losses, Most eighteen point leads conceded.

My post was about the argument that Tate didn't shine for us because he was in an poor team.

Hurrell built his name in a team that was worse ( records ).

I can remember being excited when Manoa Thompson was signed, he was a pretty freakish player at his best. Turned out to be an epic fail for us, unfortunately.
.

I remember watching Manoa Thompson at a Warriors training session and he was doing these crazy skill things with the ball. Wished we held on to him cause then maybe his son might have had a reason to join the club. If only?

I liked Manoa too. Hayne would have ended up a second rower under Ivan.

I see your point, but I would still argue that Hurrell had good players around him who were simply bombing. Those teams on paper aren't very different to today's team or the team that made the '11 GF.

Our very worst teams go back to before Daniel Anderson arrived.
