I just relived this great event and it gave me an awesome feeling of national pride.
It's about Cathy Freeman and her holding the hope of a nation and her people on her shoulders. Cathy beat the best sprinters in the world to win gold in the 400m race at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
This was not long after she lit the flame to open the games. That flame ceremony was one of the best in Olympic history and it gave me goosebumps seeing it again.
A prominent Aussie sportsman said that Kathy didn't do enough for our Aboriginal people....BS to that I say!
Well done Kathy.
Have you got any fav Olympic memories you'd like to share?

Both videos are on YouTube but are blocked. Is there a way around this?

By beating the big Americans. Europeans
Still gives goosebumps
And Michael Johnson absolutely ridiculous
Fantastic athlete ever in Olympics

Ray Gun.......if you don't know who she is, give yourself a treat and look it up. The worst Olympic performance ever....Eric the Eel is now 2nd place.

I just don’t get breakdancing as an Olympic sport full stop- was it particularly bad compared the other competitors?

I mean I think breakdancing is fine as performance, it’s just not really sport.

I thought she was having some sort of medical episode when I flicked over to Stan.
This is not a sport sorry. One could argue synchronised swimming and that gymnastics thingy where they twirl the ribbon around isn't sport either.
The Break Dancing would make a great Roy and HG skit. Or Monty python.

I remember in the 1994 Commonwealth Games when she draped the Aboriginal flag over her shoulder with the Australian flag after winning Gold, i was so proud of her for doing that and upsetting the dinosaurs like Arthur Tunstall.

Cathy showed the world, and all Australian's that we should be proud to have her/our people's flag draped over her shoulders.
I say 'our' because I hope one day before I die it will become a reality. Or at least one flag that we all can relate to.
