Final verdict on Copley

I don't mind the html tags. It's the swear word that's breaching the rules.

Not having a go mate, I just don't want to have to delete anybody's posts.

I was at the game, Copley apart from his bombed try did absolutely nothing wrong and had a pretty good game actually he is strong at running the ball back and seems like a steady player. He still deserves his spot as he worked his ass off to make up for that bombed try and did well to take his try at the end, but this would be a warning to him that if he does bomb more tries he will be dropped.

I was at the game game last night, He gave me heat tremors every moment he touched the ball. He is not up to first grade standard.

Man how many chances do we have to give him!! I count 3 from memory now (not including tries he's had a major hand in conceding) and I know there's more. Time to give gagai a "chance"

Copely has definitely not played well enough to say that Gagai doesn't deserve a chance. He has made far too many errors in both defence and attack.

I don't dislike Copely but I seriously cannot agree that he is playing well enough to cement his place in the team, too many errors and a lack of spark shows he's not ready to be playing in the NRL. Gagai definitely deserves a chance in the next game or two, if Gagai cannot perform either then throw Copely back in

Im all for giving Gagai a chance once he deserves it. At the moment Copley deserves it as he was playing wing for most of last year and did a decent job of it. As long as Hook believes that Copley is the man for the job then I am more than happy to persist with it.

Also why change a winning side? You want consistency in a team.

I disagree Steve. copely last year was below average, not decent. The broncos were also winning before he was included un the side...

Yes they were winning, but I can understand why he went with Copley over Gagai and I think it had a lot to do with Copley being a decent performer last season, you may say he was below average but you are probably just remembering his shockers and not the good he did. One thing I feel he has over Gagai is he is actually very good at returning the ball from kicks which is important in a winger. Yes his finishing has to improve but as long as he is still putting in the effort and making up for bad mistakes with good plays then I am more than happy to persist with him.

And again why change a winning side?

Well.........he didn't make any more errors.

I thought he made an earnest effort to try and redeem himself. Reasonably strong runs

didn't drop the ball again

and

took a kick in the air/corner to score.

All in all.......he finished well.

I don't know about that, he ran pretty well.

Just bombed a try every winger in history has.

He was continually running returning kicks hard went looking for work early in the sets and finished off a very good try at the end. Every winger makes a few mistakes like that early in their careers, I can remeber the Morris brothers having the worst hands in the NRL at one stage. I'm not saying he is going to be as good as them but they got over those handling issues why can't Copley.

Because Copley could cost us a game soon?

So could Thaiday, so could Petro, So could Gillett, So Could Gagai if he came in. Until he does get off his back and let him play.

He fnished well to score the try, but he looks like he plays no confidence at all.

After bombing that 1st try that's to be expected.......I think all he needs is a couple of games where things might go his way for him to be able to turn things right around

28 tries in 30 games (2010) can't have been a fluke.

wow very clever comeback there. Quick question apart from the games he has played in the first grade have you ever seen Gagai play?

Personally i haven't which is possibly a reason why I am defending Copley as I have seen more of Copley and I know that he is a good player.

Hypothetical situation is Gagai comes in and bombs a try like Copley did how would you react? Would you be calling for his head?

Just let the lad get on with playing footy and back him, until Hook decides Gagai is ready there's a reason he is the coach and you're not considering he probably started watching league before 2006.
