Final winners since the door was open to the rest of Australia outside of Sydney...1982, to the last final, 2017.

Brisbane 6/7 85%
Melbourne 5/8 62%
Canterbury 5/10 50%
Manly 4/10 40%
Canberra 3/5 60%
Parramatta 3/6 50%
Newcastle 2/2 100%
Penrith 2/3 66%
Easts 2/6 33%
Wests 1/1 100%
Souths 1/1 100%
Cronulla 1/2 50%
Nth Queensland 1/3 33%
Saints 1/6 16%
Auckland 0/2 0%
Gold Coast 0/0 0%

Also, Australian Rugby League teams have won 14/32 = 43% and Australian Super League teams have won 23/40 = 57%.

By "final winners" do you mean Grand Finals?

Correct. Every sport in the world use Final but Australian administrators for some reason see it as something more.
Super League in the UK call it the Grand Final too.

Yep and who did Manchester City play in the final to win the English Premier League Championship?

The term "Grand" Final came about because of how the finals system developed in the NWSRL First Grade over the decades. When it was decided to move away from a first past the post system to determine the premiers and introduce a finals system, if the Minor Premiers lost during the finals series they had the right to challenge the finals series winner in a "Grand" Final. In 1954 the Grand Final became a mandatory part of the fixtures, and back in the days when the finals series was the top 5, the game played before the Grand Final was often referred to as the Preliminary Final.

Not sure if your last line.
Super League ran only in 1997 with the Broncs winning. Canterbury and Brisbane was not affiliated to the Superleague when they won in the 1980s or early 1990s

The NSW RL clubs won from 1982-1994, with ARL teams winning 1994-1997.
NRL teams won from 1998 onwards.

Correct. They were teams destined for Super League whether they knew it or not. The Australian Rugby League and Australian Super League statistics are made from the perspective of hindsight.

Thanks Captain Apollo. Be it Superbowls, World Series, Grand Final, etc. to me they are the last match of the season which every team wants to win so therefore the Final.

I actually had to check this, forgot they even made it last year.

I'm ok with the Storm having 5 'wins', technically they won the game but not the premiership for two of those.
When it's all said and done, the betting money won or lost, merchandise sales, parties, and the winning feel, and the Official DVD of the matches still exist. They are matches a Storm supporter can watch on replay and enjoy. Though I don't know why the losing team wasn't elevated to win status as they do when there's a disqualification in the Olympics. Maybe it's because it also denied teams who Melbourne beat along the way the opportunity of making the final. I don't know.

Maybe google will have the answer.

Interesting the format in world football. Most countries have a league and cup which are separate. I would like to see a knockout cup format that involves all teams but separate from the regular league. Along the lines of 1 V 16, 2 V 15, 3 V 14, etc. Straight knockout. Round of 16, Quarter Final, Semi Final, Final.

Perhaps all teams that lose can play the following week but in the loses side of the draw. The winners keep playing winners. In the end, every team will have played 4 matches to determine their position. At least fans will have something to watch rather than switch off. Fans support their own team more than another.

I wouldn't care if my preferred cup format was played post-season, in-season, or pre-season. If it was in-season then the last week or first week of every month for four months, because there would be four matches, would be set aside for cup matches only replacing the state matches. In an ideal environment, state matches would be played post-season as a matter of progression followed by international matches.

It's a matter of mentality and respecting team performances for the regular season in the way played in world soccer and finishing first, for example, doesn't diminish their season performance should they make and lose the cup final.

Perhaps there's a market to play monthly cup format tournaments throughout the season in the way tennis and rugby 7s are played replacing the league format. Or maybe not.

Ideas. It's not a crime to think.
