Finding the age of an appliance - how ?

Have been 'forced' into purchasing a new fridge as my trusty grog ( and the odd vegetable) cooler has finally packed it in :( !

I bought it off the previous tenants of the property over 14 years ago as part of an 'appliances package' when I bought the property, but am now curious as to its age / date of manufacture.

Have looked everywhere for a manufacture date but can only find details of model - Kelvinator C480GC; AND Appliance no. 11761.

Based on some comments from my neighbours it may be a late 80's model.

Anyone got any insights / ideas ?

There will be a model number and serial number on the compressor (motor).

Kelvinator make their own compressors and they should be able to give you the date of compressor manufacture which will probably be the same year as the fridge was manufactured.

If it was built in mid 1976, a 17 year old roopy probably put that compressor in that fridge. sh*t of a job.

Most serial numbers will indicate where the appliance was built and when....it's normally only apparent to the manufacturer though. A call to the manufacturer would
probably help. In your case this is : http://www.kelvinator.com.au/

Thanks all for the intelligent, articulate and 'interesting' responses !!!

An email response from Kelvinator hints at a 1976 model being the case,; but I will check further when possible !

I worked at the Email factory at Orange for about 6 months in 1976.
We made a dozen different brands of fridge on the same line, but they actually did have different quality control for the different brands.
Kelvinator were top of the line model with the best components and they took extra time and care with them.
I'm not that surprized one is still chugging along because they were quality at the time.
