Fit Backline

Let's break it down:

1. Burt - points-scoring freak; leading goal-kicker; experienced; good kicking option...Simply put, if he's fit, he chooses himself.

2. Hayne - a NSW representative winger, and one of the best ones in the game, at that.

3. Smith - strong defense. It seems he has been weaker than usual lately, but there's more to it than meets the eye. His inside men (namely Mateo and Finchy) don't seem to be communicating properly, which leaks out to Benny and he often leaves Guruju stranded.

4. Tahu - fast, agile, strong, aggressive...Picks himself, to be honest.

5. Grothe - he can be heart-attack material. But then, his kick returns are second to none and his hit-ups are as strong as any forward's. Adding to that he has size, pace to burn and a handy offload when he times it right.

Unlucky to miss out would be Inu. But that is simply our best backline at this stage, I feel.

This is the way i see it, we have 4 rep outside backs, Tahu (best player we have in our backs -picks himself), Hayne (probably the second best player in our outside backs, also picks himself), Grothe (the second best winger in the game, only to hayne - although does have some heart attack moments, he is important to out team picks himself). We then go into the ambiguous, Inu (our fourth rep player, relay not established as a first grader, i worry about his defense on the wing more because he does come in sometimes, but so does grothe. He is without doubt the most skilled of our outside backs, his dropkicks go 60meters, he is worth the risk IMO). That leaves Benny and Burt as the last two choices, Benny is a future rep centre, he has good defense, his leg drive is much better than it was last year, he doesn't submit in tackles. His knack of being in the right place at the right time, and has a good understanding with grothe, for this reason i would leave him there. Burt is a good player, and has always been talked about as a possible rep player, but we have to do what is best for the team. Burt will come back around finals time with no fitness, and will have lost alot of pace due to the ankle injury. We don't need to risk him in First, he would have to play PL for a week at least, he isn't Tahu, he can't just walk straight back in. He has to prove he is fit to play, and by then i think it would be to late to make a change. Stay with what we have.

like hages says, things will work itself out.

As much as I love having him in the team, Isn't TITS due for an injury?

So why can Tahu walk straight back in? I thought we were trying to pick the best team not just the players with the best reputation.

Tahu has proven why he walks straight back in. He is the most deadly centre one on one in the game, he is the best centre at putting his winger away (along with Gasnier),his defence is at another level to any other centre so much so that he is hitting so hard you can sense the oposition looking for him and every time he comes back from injury he is straight back to top form. He is our main X factor going into the finals. Need any other reasons?

Yes! this is a big reason, but the other is even when Tahu does a hammy, he is so strong, so fit, so fast that it is back to training and he gains it all back. He doesn't lose any intensity when he is out for extended periods. Burt has done a knee, Wont have walked on it for 8 weeks, and expets to walk straight back in. He need to rebuild himself, he isn't half the athlete Tahu is, disregarding reputation. Gasnier walked straight back line to the st george team, Hodges walked into the brisbane team. These guys are pure athletes, Burt isn't at the same level simple as that.
