gotta look at what the games are too tho - I mean Parra v Broncos business end of the season would likely draw a big house day or night, but it happened to be Sunday arvo ..... often the Sunday games are better opponents/games so they would draw better crowds

Not really.

It's only the 3pm sunday match, because that's the nine game.

The 2:30pm matches are generally just as appealing as the 7:30 saturday match.

Night games rule a lot of people out.

I sit next to a couple....season tickets since atleast 86. Never come at night now.

yeah but what sunday arvo games did we have this year? - the bums on seats stats may be a bit misleading if we had some good quality sunday arvo games .... ch9 will put the best game of the week on friday night and then try and get a popular game for sunday

Foxsports and Channel Nine would never come to the agreement of canning the Sunday games.

Super Saturday rates higher than anything on a Saturday night and Channel Nine would lose a lot of viewers into the Sunday night news and onwards into Sixty Minutes.

IN SEQ, the Broncos draw massive crowds on a Sunday... Personally I like these games better as i usualy play footy and head out on a Saturday night and then can have a recovery/sunday session at the Footy.

Fitzy is off his nut

Look Fitzy has done it once again, in one foul swoop he has Feed Bulldog Ritchie and got us talking about League.

Now I know it is the Tuesday of the Qualifying Finals but there is no league news, no headlines, and nothing to get people talking, and this is the sort of thing Denis is known for.

If you listened to the BSB this morning, there were 2 topics, Sunday games and The Import for the Newcastle Jets and his Bad Record off the Park.

At least we are still talking about league.

So interesting things From the BSB, there was a father saying that he does prefer night games on a Saturday night, because he can come home from working on a Saturday, take the kids to the game and spend time with them.

He also said that Sunday's were harder to get to because of the Balmain League Playing Junior League on a Sunday Morning so as Fathers that work on Saturdays and watch there kids play.

Then they have to rush home, get changed and go to the Sunday Arvo footy.

That makes Sunday footy worse for them next year with the 2:00 pm game and the 3:00p game shown at 4:00pm.

The reason that the league is looking to re-instate games on a Sunday is because of the bad crowds, and the NRL says it will investigate the problem next year, Well next year they wont have the problem, as the NRL don't have to play at the same venue each game (Aussie Stadium) as they are now contacted to have 3 finals at that venue but that contract expires this year. Home Semis will happen next year, with the largest Regional Ground hosting the games.

Eg, Newcastle, Canberra and Brisbane would play at their home grounds

Melbourne, would play at Telstra Dome if available, until there Multi Purpose Venue of 25-30,000 seats is finished

Gold Coast and North Queensland would play at Suncorp

Sydney Based clubs would play at Aussie or Telstra Depending on previous crowd attendances, e.g. Manly Vs Cronulla would most probably be at Aussie while, Parramatta Vs St George would most probably be at Telstra.

That way 2 games on a Saturday evening at 6:30 and 8:30, We also then rule out the Argument about how much time teams have to prepare / recover because the difference can be a maximum of 4 hours.

Also on the Sunday Night Grand Final. I think it would be better if it Kicked of at maybe 5:30 or something, have a 4:30 news, a 5:00 Pre-Game Show and have a 15 minute half time break for the Half time Show, During the Pre Game show have the parade of the retiring players on the field. You can also have the Trophy Delivery like last year with the Black Hawk, or something else. That way the game is over by 7:30, The Kiddies can get to bed by 8:30 or 9:00 at the latest and the rest of us can Party on. You can have you full day of activities with games starting only 2 hours later. 60 Minutes can still show at its correct time, and the National News is recorded and ready for regional distribution as well either at the same time or at a time Convenient for other stations.

Doing this we might not get the GF shown in Melbourne, Live but we could also get it shown in Perth Live as well which according to WARL is gaining in strength and numbers because of the Western Force. That's right League is getting bigger because of the Union side in the state.

If you could get Eddie to sign off on having the NRL grand final on in Melbourne and Adelaide we could start to show case our Product to the Entire Country and become a National League again.

But Once again Fitzy has conceded on the BSB that Sunday games will happen regardless, and he has got us talking everyone talking about the issue at hand, and concentrating on Rugby League.

20,000, with the possibility of increasing it to 25,000.

http://www.austadiums.com/stadiums/stadiums.php?id=279

This is because Telstra Dome has it written into their contract that there can be no stadium built in Melbourne with a capacity over 20000 until after 2010.
The Storm and Melbourne Victory are currently negotiating with the Victorian Govt to have capacity built to 25000 from the start.

Well Fishy my boy tell me what other headlines are there?

Gasnier is Training, Be he did that yesterday.

Inglis is training or was at about 8:30 today.

The Side to take on the Kumals was announced.

Are any of these going to generate the amount of conversation that this has?

Mark, Fitzy story is nothing but a distraction.

This is the time our game should be on show.

It should be up to the league to generate positive stories around the finals.

Either way it is 5 - 10,000 more than Olympic Park and it has the Added Benefit of having them Close to the Side line or Goal posts with out the Running Track Area.

But once again for a 2nd Home Semi for the Storm of Week 1 was Full at the New Stadium, then it would be off to Telstra Dome.

Oh, come on MITS, even though there are no Victorian teams in the AFL Finals, I'll bet there is sh*t loads more news in their papers about the AFL Qualifiers.
The Telecrap was pathetic this morning with the amount of League news there was. There was more news about Football then there was about League.
I normally get bored reading about other teams, but I was disappointed this morning.
FFS, it's Grand Final Qualifier week!!!!!
As Fishy said, if they need Fitzy for a headline, somethings wrong.

So Tell me Fishy what should the game Show off????

As a Game don't we like talking about our problems and finding a way to fix them ? Are the crowds not a Problem. Don't you need a For and Against to have an argument. If Fitzy wants to play devils advocate, it doesn't effect our team, in any way so go for his life in my Eyes.

Why does it need to be fixed the week before a preliminary final MITS? Shouldn't they be talking about that AFTER the GF.

Today we had;

* Rapers backflip - I was wrong about Barrett.

* Crocker ripping into the Storm about letting the fans down.

* Shane Perry telling us no one asked him to right a letter to help Mason

* Front Page was "Join the Campaign to Bury the Bronocs and Storm"

Three full pages in finals week......

Surely there is some better way to put League in the spotlight then Fitzy having a whinge.

How about the teams playing this weekend?

How about pumping up some of the personalities?

How about getting some good news stories out there about the clubs and their community work?

How about some stories about the fans travelling interstate this w/end?

That's just off the top of my head. Don't the NRL pay people to come up with these ideas? It's not like grand final qualifier week has suddenly sprung up on them is it?

What are we going to talk about in Grand Final week? Or is Fitzy going to come up with another distraction.

Yeah but it is also Tuesday and that is the Day the Telegraph do their "football" Section every week. Nothing Much changes in League Between Monday and Tuesday unless we are going to the Judiciary.

Fair to say that tomorrow after selections you will get all the Good News stories about league. Comeback for Gasnier and Inglis. Webke wants to go out a Winner. Asoasti Named in the Side, Stuff like that.

Either way and I think Fishy Started the question here on the Eels board (and no I don't mean for the entire world I just mean between us) about the Crowd Figures when he first saw the game. Fish isn't the only one talking about it everyone is.

So apart from Correcting my figures does what I have said make any sense?

Are we just running around saying this has to change because next year it will change any rate and the NRL told us that Last year during the Finals with the Tigers Vs Saints game was at Aussie?

By Changing that you can change the TV format, and Make it fairer for everyone in terms of getting to the games.

Does any one here think that if the Dragons Vs Manly was on A Saturday night it would have attracted more than 33 thousand.

Does any one here think that if the Knights played the Broncos at EA Stadium it would not have sold out and been packed?

My issue is just with the timing of this, and Fitzy's comments.

In my view, it's a debate best left until after the final series.

It does nothing to controbute to the selling/marketing of this weekends finals.

Personally, my own view is the NRL should bite the bullet and play home city advantage right up to the Grand Final.

How about pumping up some of the personalities? - Sure after the Teams are named as some are in doubt.

How about getting some good news stories out there about the clubs and their community work? - These stories like the one Colonel will come to the fore the week of the Grand Final.

How about some stories about the fans travelling interstate this w/end? - These come out about Firday, I was called by the Telegraph to see if I was driving down because I had a Blue car.

That's just off the top of my head. Don't the NRL pay people to come up with these ideas? It's not like grand final qualifier week has suddenly sprung up on them is it?

Grand Final week is the Time for these Stories, not this week, IMO.

They already have and spoke about it at the Start of this Finals Series. But it is obviously lost on everyone and only came back to the fore with the Bad Crowds, which everyone in league is talking about and trying to find a way to resolve.

David Gallop is Only saying he will listen to people about putting Finals Back on a Sunday Afternoon. But next year we might be like Melbourne This year and not have a Final at all.
