On the subject - Johnson would be the one you would put money on.
Then it is a question of are they all using the same technology?
Not to intimate that anyone is cheating by any stretch but I recall reading that Halligan used to wear a slightly different boot for goal kicking purposes (unsure of construct) , would something like this inhibit all out speed on a modern player?
Is there even any tractional advantage from one boot to the next?
Would a players propensity to instinctively hold the ball to promote a pass affect anything?

1) We are not mates - you seem like an arrogant merkin actually, your pseudo superior tone means we would probably never be mates on any level - I f**king hate condescending f**kwits who talk down to people
2) where did I say he was in high school when he cracked the time?
3) If I'm a legend in my own lunchtime your a f**kwit in your own morning tea break - f**k me you think I'd had claimed to have owned a gold plated Ferrari or some shit
4) If the bloke was cracking it for low 10's on a non competition surface, with bugger all coaching, no real decent equipment, not even proper running shoes then forgive me for assuming that maybe he would have been capable of a bit more in a perfect world scenario, I'm not saying the bloke was gonna win 3 golds at 3 Olympics but given opportunity etc he may have been able to compete at some of the higher levels

Believe or don't believe what you want to believe.
/out

I now doubt you are even an aussie, mate is a generic term whether the guy is a f**kwit like you or your best buddy.

You keep piling the shite upon yourself, "the bloke was cracking it for low 10's on a non competition surface, with bugger all coaching, no real decent equipment, not even proper running shoes then forgive me for assuming that maybe he would have been capable of a bit more in a perfect world scenario" but somehow was electronically timed at sub 10 seconds.

You are well suited to this forum, talks big knows shit.

I'm guessing you have never played an actual game of league in your life and wouldn't run 100m in under 20 seconds.

Why Johnson over Roberts? For 100m I think i'd go Roberts, Koro, Johnson.

Ok maybe he would be the one I'd put money on.
I haven't taken good enough notice of the others to form a decent opinion.
Maybe it is a testament to the defensive structures of our game these days but you don't usually get to see someone get thrown a ball in their own 20 and then have no one in front of them for the next 80 and a bit metres.
If we were to look at the amount of try's someone like Ken Irvine got because of their speed, do we attribute that to the defensive structures of the time?
Would he be as effective today?

Speaking of a Roberts, what was Amos Roberts time over 40 or so metres?
I watched people give up chasing him and one bloke stop trying to outrun him in a game in 2005 I think it was, whenever he played for Penrith.

No worries its just opinion at this stage but for James I have never seen someone move on a footy field like he does, its freakish, Koro I think in a sprint race would be be hard to beat but its just the impression i get watching them.

Funny you mention Amos, on matty johns show last night they were showing footage of 18yo GI carving up the Rorters and he outran Amos over 100, scary that GI was that fast. Amos was very quick though I cant recall him being run down ever.

GI was lightning.
How much quicker would some of the other guys be if they did not carry the extra bulk required to be a footballer?

GI was quick as when he was younger. I remember an interview with Slater back when he was regarded as quick when he was asked about his speed. And he basically said that he was a sloth compared to Inglis when doing sprints @ storm. These days he's running on one leg but back then he would run away from chasers. Even half legged he showed last year he could leave Copley behind him whilst carry the ball.

I think all the following is not comparable:
- running in a sprint race on an athletic track with running gear.
- running in football gear with a football
- running in football gear without a football

Quite a few players have already said that it is always easier to chase someone down with the ball.

Johnson has a few impressive chasedowns over the last couple years to give you an idea of how quick he really is.

You can check some of them out in the videos below, there's plenty more too and I've never seen him get chased down from behind *Bowen once but it was his first game back from a leg injury and he still wasn't 100%

https://youtu.be/BqoDOm3npWs - chasing down Jennings

https://youtu.be/1IhYP4_mpvQ - chasing down Tupou

- 2mins 50 seconds into the video Johnson chases down Koroibete. Koroibete started zigzagging but then took off for the line at full speed and Johnson caught him pretty easy

As people have said, chase downs are misleading, as the ball slows the carrier down. It's the guys that outrun the chasers on a regular basis white the quickest.

Running with a football in your hand(s) hampers your natural running style considerably.

That's why you'll see players get run down. If someone scores a try running away from a supposedly quick defender, you know he is fast.

Josh Morris has caught Jennings and Johnson before but I'm not convinced he's quicker than either.
