Bolt is the exception (and I personally have doubts about how clean he is), most great sprinters from past years were around 5'8'' to 5'10' (172 -178cm), all muscle but not too bulky - probably 12-14 stone (80 - low 90kgs).

The thing is he would be the most scrutinized athlete on earth the last few years so if he isnt clean theres not much hope for anyone.

Im not saying he is definitely clean, just that I really hope he is.

Lance Armstrong waiving furiously! :nwave:

Yeah, I agree, of course I, like many, said same things about Lance - not sure what to make of it all now

Jarryd Hayne would destroy James Roberts over any disatnce if both had proper sprint training, too big, too strong, too fast.

The Jamacians (under guidance from their coach) go on these uncontactable training camps every year. He (like Armstrong was) is too big a fish to reel in, what would it do to an already tarnished sport if Bolt was brought down.

It depends dude.
Sometimes people are coached really well - in regard to sprinting - and they can pretty much crack their top speed within 10 or so metres.
Particularly the shorter guys seem to get their quicker but have slightly higher times at the end of the 100m.
The ability to propel from the standing start has a fair bit to do with it.
I'm a bit over 6ft and I used to crack the 100m sprint in 10.43 at best, but I didn't accelerate that well - I also could not use it to great effect in football either.
A bloke I used to go to school with was close to cracking 9 seconds for the 100m but he was a freak who probably should have devoted himself to it and went to the Olympics, he instead played some footy in the Newcastle League and is now obese.

I too played with a freakishly fast dude in Newcastle who is now obese. What team?

Not sure that's true at all. Plus James Roberts has the added bonus of actually being in the NRL, therefore qualifying for this thread.

This is the most outlandish statement ever made on LU, is it not?

If he was white (not racist, just a hypothetical), he's going close to not only being the first Anglo-Saxon to run under 10sec, but under 9sec.

The Don Bradman of sprinting, only if the Don averaged 199.94. In hindsight he probably absolutely should've given sprinting a crack and seen where 9.03sec took him.

But hey, pies are fun too.

Look at the anguish on James Roberts face( ie running his fastest) whilst Hayne was walking his dog on a friendly stroll and still almost caught him

obviously you need to specify the distance - maybe these ? 50m & 100m

For me ( in no order - 8 to make it like an athletics final ) 50m
James Roberts
Shaun Johnson
Marika Koroibete
Michael Jennings
Michael Morgan

Reserves - Anthony Milford, James Tedesco, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck

100m
James Roberts
Marika Koroibete
Brett Morris
Reece Robinson
David Mead

Reserves - Akuila Uate, Greg Inglis, Mitchell Pearce

I don't get why anyone would think Shaun Johnson would drop off between 50-100. I don't think there is anyone in the comp with more well-established speed from 50-100m than Shaun. So many runaways or successful chases and I don't think he has EVER been cleanly beaten.

...not to say I think Johnson is the fastest though. I reckon that's Roberts. Koroibete and Johnson up there though. And lol at anyone who thinks Inglis has any place in this discussion.
