Flanno's New Signings

Ben wanted a release cause he obviously had options last year.He would have been part paid,if any, by us and the remainder by his new club.
Lomax wanted out and he was allowed to walk.
Ben never wanted to be here and it showed and Flano got it wrong with his decision to keep him.
So no point in shaming Ben before self examination of the decision to keep him.
If Hunt was allowed to walk last year we would have been a basket case of a club and not had our much improved season. Recruitment is hard enough as it is. Would have hurt morale also. Plus the precedent that would set

They paid big $ for Luai but it will work for them. Galvin was a junior. But the Tiges have a very, very bad record of hanging onto their star juniors.

Flanno tried to get Dearden but he did not want to move. For the spine, we are just going to have to take the development route (which we have had bad luck or judgement with in recent years). What other choice do we have?
Ummm maybe get some talented talent spotters onto our payroll who scour the country, Fiji Samoa and the UK looking for the hidden diamonds. They would be out there. Storm are very good at recognising and developing talent. While we are at it - develop a culture where the club and players all care about each other.

We had some pretty good talent right here at home but let them go (Robson, Bostock) or had other problems (Cody). I think Flanno is getting this sorted as we speak. He has already imported a couple of hotshot young halves from Qld and Manly and we have a few other promising young ones so there will be lots of competition in the junior halves in the years to come.

This is not overnight stuff but in Flanno I trust.

The argument for retaining Hunt for 2024 and 2025 was more about the ability to get Luc or Cook and Val and or better

It wouldnt have happened if we only had ressie halves

Flano also brought on some very good performance specialists which was part of the reason we achieved the 12 wins.

I also thought it was pretty clear if Jnr was on the field last 4 games or so we would have won another game and snuck into the 8..............not a bad effort.

ABOVE ALL.................We needed to signal to the market who is boss and how our list is evolving.

The opposite signalling to the market and the managers would have had us in a death spiral

we cant get our hands on a true FG half.........well we couldnt for 2024 and even 2025 will be difficult.

Sua probably would not have signed on again without a Ben Hunt in the halves............why would he

It was a rock and a hard place and Im glad for having Flano because the top5 coaches are not available and the bottom5 would have crumbled.

Flano had some seriously big personalities he managed at the Sharks on their journey to the GF...........he has some runs on the board with GF success and man management

He has some media and recruitment skills that he has built........Flano also got to step back and learn a little more from a few other coaches...............some hard lessons in his time out which no doubt make his drive "FLANNOABLE"

I mean how there is not a sign on the hilly yet that does not say " FLANNOABLE" ??? Maybe 2025 or 2026 ?

he is a survivor and I am hopeful ..............despite a very tough market to secure your ideal players. The work down prior to Flano was also very very good re bringing on board serious young talent.

yes indeed !
I thought we won 11 games this season!

What a load of old codswallop that we would have made the semis if K F wasn’t suspended.

He is not the playmaker nor a dynamic match winning player in our team.

At very best he is solid and that’s it.

If people really think he was the difference in the last 4 games then you are sadly misunderstanding the dynamics in our side.

Other players who actually played were the reason why we didn’t win any of the last 4 games plus the fact many of you overestimated our ability and underestimated other teams.

Save for a couple (emphasis on couple) excellent games we actually weren’t that hard to beat if teams applied themselves.

I just read that Jackson Hastings is on $800k at Newcastle where he is playing reserves until end 2025. He says he has a contract and he is going nowhere. Just like Saifiti said. The club was their hostage. This kind of thing chokes the life out of clubs. As a fan you'd be ropable. In what universe was Jackson Hastings ever worth $800k for three years?

We won't pay anything like that for Lachlan Ilias. And only for two years. These guys should always be looking over their shoulders at the young guys coming up in their positions.

3 years?? Phht.

Only stars should get 3 years. Superstars get 3-5. Good on Flanno for knocking back 3 years for RCG.

We already have Blake Laurie until end 2026. That contract was signed in January 2023. Was there a feeding frenzy for his signature? So why re-sign him a season early? Griffin. What an incompetent.

Ravalawa was extended to end 2026 in July 2023. Again, stop doing it. Not a star, no feeding frenzy, no 3 year contract. Was he going to walk away if offered two years?

Again, Griffin. Could not run a chook raffle. Infuriating.

Unless I missed it I haven't seen anyone really blame the suspension of KF for us missing the semis. It didn't help though. I don't think its any coincidence that Hunt's game went to complete shite in the last 4 games without "solid" KF to take some of the playmaking duties from our crappy imposter of a captain and "marquee" halfback.
But ultimately we missed the semis because our roster has a core group of mentally weak perennial losers (including the guy who dropped the 2015 GF) with an ingrained culture of gutlessness and spinelessness leftover from the Griffin and McGregor eras who crumbled under pressure when it was time to step up and take the opportunity in front of them.

Nothing to laugh about it’s the sad reality of who we are.

Other teams put plenty of points on us and if that wasn’t bad enough they often did it quickly and broke whatever little spirit we had.
I laugh bcs the statement is absurd. It is unfalsifiable, a logical fallacy. In other words, you felt very cranky about Flanno so you said something very silly.

The only possible response rational to your statement is to say "Look at the scoreboard." Bcs the scoreboard always tells the truth.

WTF are you trying to say

Are you saying that we lost games due to the K F suspension?

Are you saying that we didn’t get pumped by some big scores?

Are you trying to say that in games we didn’t capitulate and let teams run up big scores against us some after we had a half time lead?

Are you trying to say that some players that didn’t stand up in the last 4 games actually did?

Are you trying to say that before the last 4 games that posters in this place weren’t well ahead of themselves by saying we only needed to win a couple and that should be easy including some suggesting we would take the Dogs?

Are you trying to say that the game against the Eels didn’t show us up for the contemptible weak side we can be on given days?

Griffin was gone in May, Flano signed in June & Ravalawa was extended in July so this had nothing to do with Griffin. You would think Flano had some input in this which surprises me.

That's a bad mistake then, if he signed off on it. Were other teams clamoring to steal Rava away from us? I doubt it. Sometimes I think that having available spots is more important than having money.

Don’t believe so mate. He was playing well last season however still wouldn’t have rushed to sign him as his best & worst are too far apart.

The reason we were there abouts was because we managed somehow to beat Penrith on their turf ( yes I know they were under strength ) Think we had a couple out also , then we beat the Storm at their ground also and they were close to full strength ....... So 4 points that we picked up that we weren't backing on , take them away and we would have been further down the ladder ........ 4 points that most of the teams fighting for the 8 would not have picked up .........

I hate it when people underplay what the team achieved in both those games. They were both very good wins. Yes Penrith had 5 out, but we had 3 out, we were playing at their home ground, and Panthers were favoured to win by a big margin. They still had a formidable forward pack, but we muscled up and held them. Marschke and Flanno totally outplayed their halves, both kicked well, and we got a good win 4 tries to 2. The Melbourne game was a cracker, edge of the seat, another game we were totally expected to lose. Everyone played out of their skin. We totally deserved to be on the cusp of the 8, despite the nay sayers.
