EA is correct - Joe Jorgensen captained Australia in 1946 but lost the captaincy and eventually retreated to captain-coach Junee in 1947. However, his move to the bush was not successful and the Tigers successfully cleared they way for his return to Balmain in time for the 1947 finals. He was named in the team to face the Bulldogs in the 'Grand Final Challenge' - back then, if the minor premiers were defeated in the knockout finals, they had the right to challenge the eventual winners to a 'Grand Final'.

Playing in the centres, Jorgensen scored a try and five goals - all of the Tigers points - and Balmain won 13-9.
