Former Panthers in the NRL

We missed out on Lyon and got Mark O'Halloran and Lee Hookey instead.
Brendan Worth the following year.
What a horrible period.

I still found it insanely amusing that O’Halloran was being touted as a major signing for us. The anticipation that was built up about this in the old Panthers Interactive site was huge. Then O’Halloran’s name was announced and it went down like a lead balloon. It was really a bad case of our collective intelligence being insulted.

I remember the outburst on PI.
O'Halloran got announced and everyone was 'OK, but when will the major signing be announced'?
"He just was".
Then the shit hit the fan when we found out no one credible was coming.
It really was insulting to what the club was trying to sell back then. Very Tigeresq at the time. Bought rubbish, paid overs to retain players, and spun their BS.
Years later Elliott's rip-off of Moris Iemma's 2007 election slogan "More to do but heading in the right direction" was laughable.

Elliott was the worst coach to ever coach our club.
Maybe some of our older fans think of someone else. But they probably didn't have the resources and talent Elliott had.
I am still amazed he conned the Warriors into giving him another shot at FG coach.

John Peard was the coach when I started following the Panthers. Better commentator than coach from memory.

Still a better coach than Elliot though.

I got banned so many times. LOL. Had so many running battles with him. In hindsight though, he had an absolute bugger of a job at least with PI. The club put lipstick on a pig and poor Rob had to essentially sell it and defend the club from all those who pointed out it was a still an ugly Pig...

I remember Kenny won the JF premiership with us then got the flick.

He never forgave us for that. Apparently, he was verbally promised a more prominent coaching role and the club reneged. He brought through a fair amount of talent. It's curious how his coaching career never really took off though.

I recall you having run ins with him before it was even a forum. Back in the days when it was just a message board.

Exactly. I was a mod there in later years. Being a 'company man or woman' during those tough times was a real bugger.

I probably had runs in with you too.

I heard (don't know how true) that a cow could have coached that team to sucess, and he was a hopeless communicator and man manager.
