Fox Sports could have more content to show on their new dedicated NRL channel after entering into secret negotiations with the Seven Network about the prospect of simulcasting this year's Rugby League World Cup.

As it stands, Seven has the Australian rights for the tournament, including the free-to-air broadcast, subscription, online, mobile and digital platforms. The Olympic network has also been appointed to undertake the host broadcast for international television for all the games played in Australia.

A total of 14 teams will play 28 games during a five-week period from October 27 to December 2 with Fox expressing interest in simulcasting at least some of them. Such an arrangement would provide valuable content for Fox's 24-hour dedicated league channel, Fox League, while reducing the costs for Seven of going solo.

It could also potentially open up the prospect of Fox and Seven sharing on-air talent, opening the door for caller Andrew Voss to return to free-to-air TV.

Regardless, Seven powerbrokers are already casting their eyes over potential callers and panelists for their coverage. We're hearing ABC Grandstand's Andrew Moore heads a shortlist, while Triple M's Dan Ginnane is also highly regarded. NSW coach Laurie Daley, who just signed a new deal with Seven, will likely be involved, while former Blues Craig Wing and Willie Mason could also get a start.

The current simulcast arrangement between Nine and Fox of NRL matches has helped the pay TV network steadily increase its audience share.

Looks like a bit of ambiguity on the games played in PNG.
On the subject of content for Fox League. If they had any foresight or someone there knew their footy, theres a top of the table clash in the French Elite 1 coming up..

They wouldn't have to put much money into it and they could have content all summer...it runs through our offseason.

Makes sense, wouldn't cost a fortune and will keep subscribers from cancelling during summer.

Surely, they would screen the matches on Fox Sports main channels as well?

Anything that expands the reach of the tournament is a plus. Fox League will grab the diehards who already have a cable connection, whilst Seven / 7mate allows the tournament to get Infront of the masses.

Has it been announced who has the TV rights to the games played in NZ & PNG??

Sky Sports in NZ....

http://www.rlwc2017.com/news/sky-sport-official-broadcaster-nz

SKY Sport has today confirmed an agreement for all-encompassing coverage of the Rugby League World Cup 2017 (RLWC2017) to be co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia from 27 October to 2 December 2017, with hosting partner Papua New Guinea to stage three pool games.

Under the terms of the deal, SKY Sport will broadcast LIVE coverage of all 28 RLWC2017 matches and will also deliver a comprehensive TV and mobile offering to SKY customers.

SKY TV Director of Sport, Richard Last says: “SKY Sport is extremely excited to be bringing the Rugby League World Cup LIVE and uninterrupted to SKY Sport customers in 2017. You only have to think back to the 2014 Four Nations when international Rugby League was last played in New Zealand to know that this is going to be one electric tournament. As the New Zealand host broadcaster, we can’t wait to do our part in bringing the Rugby League World Cup home to living rooms and bars across the country. Go the Kiwis!”

As part of the deal SKY Sport has also been appointed to undertake the host broadcast for international television of all RLWC2017 games played in New Zealand, delivering world class coverage to a global audience. This announcement of the RLWC2017 broadcast rights follows SKY Sport’s successful 2016 Rio Olympics coverage where SKY crew were used in Rio to broadcast the Rugby Sevens, the Open-Water Swim and the Triathlon events to an international audience

Similar arrangement as 2013. BBC has rights to all England games, plus at least 1x Quarter, Semi and the tournament Final.

They also have rights to screen up to six other games of their choosing live, plus of course access to replays, highlights, etc.

Premier has pretty much access to almost everything.

And it's gone....

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/...ief-executive-tim-cleary-20170318-gv16gy.html

Channel Seven is keen to introduce a new, midweek league show as part of their Rugby League World Cup coverage. As we revealed last week, Seven and Fox Sports remain in dialogue about a simulcast agreement, although our mail is that the odds on a deal are lengthening. Given its coverage will have a national reach, Seven is looking for personalities from Queensland and other regions. Former Bronco Shane Webcke is already on the books and will be used in the coverage, while Billy Moore could be another Queenslander the network will consider. Former Kiwis halfback Gary Freeman is another potential target

Fox seem to be mentioning the world cup in subtle ways , so something must be happening.
