Foxtel announcement today...

on radio last night and then in the papers today there has been strong rumours that some sort of announcement by foxtel is going to be made about the footy

it wouldnt surprise if they get their 4 games as so far nothing has been said about the make up of ch7s commentators, which if they had their schedule settled would have been done weeks ago

Wasn't the idea of Fox 3 to be an AFL channel to broadcast AFL games as well as other sports, instead of just being a Fox Footy channel ?

yeah but 7 and 10 have been playing hard ball with negotiations

kerry packer will be laughing in his grave that he made 7 and 10 pay $780mil for the rights

After all the bullsh*t misinformation and false starts regarding this issue in recent months, I'll reserve further comment until a firm and official announcement is made.

Horse sh*t.

PBL have been refusing to deal fairly on the issue.

PBL have been mischievous, but Channels 7 & 10 stand guilty on hindering negotiations and not genuinely entering into them until many months after an acceptable time.

I'd also suggest that PBL's deal offer late last year was very fair, given that it effectively amounted to more than what 7 & 10 had been asking for.

Not happy with any of the parties concerned frankly and fed up with the whole issue.

Make a bloody deal of some sort, involving somebody and let us all move on FFS!

Nah I don't think so... Channel Nine is in big trouble this year.
All their US shows have been canned mid-season, they've missed out on the AFL, and lets not even go down the Eddie McGwire 1v100 path...

They still have Rugby League though mate. That'll ensure their ratings are high all through the season.

Only in Sydney/Brisbane though.

Lucky for them they are the 1st are 3rd biggest tv markets in Australia.

not too mention pbl dont even own any stations in adelaide and perth, so by that measure they will dominate winter coverage in the markets that matter most to them.

As the song lyric goes - "If you believe in forever, then life is just a one night stand..."

Its always been acknowledged that a week is a long time in football, but it would seem that even a week has got nothing on today!

What's taking this so long?

Foxtel launched their 2007 promos this week, no mention of AFL.

edit: I'm not trolling, I'm genuinely interested as it will determine the TV landscape for the next few years...

I read something today which said 7/10 already have SBS lined up to broadcast games live on Friday night, in case the Foxtel deal is off. The pre-season cup starts in just over two weeks, so they'd bloody well want to get their act together soon!

Caroline Wilson seems pretty sure.

Foxtel comes out the winner - Which for me and people living interstate is a good thing.
