I've given it some thought over the weekend, and I've decided that @Parra is correct. Apologies for my previous mocking.

I think we should also take it a step further, and have the teams start on 1-1 instead of 0-0. It makes sense, because even though they haven't actually scored any points yet, that's the points that they are in the process of scoring.

NB in union, they would start 3-3. For obvious reasons.
