France vs Australie (Paris)

Just watching this on video now, and logged on while watching and went through all the posts..

I'm very disappointed with the crowd, but in all fairness I think it's indicative of the way the RFL seems to have promoted the tournament..When you can't sell out Wigan with the English and Kangaroos, then there are serious problems..Maybe it should have been played in Perpignan or Beziers, but Paris NEEDS some exposure to TGG and I support the move..

Someone on here mentioned too many un-French sounding names and I totally agree..Toulouse is a step up from Elite 1 and yet there is 1 (?) player from Toulouse and how many from Elite 1...??..The bloke is right, it's great hearing commentators call out names like Ferriol, Duport, Bosc and Raguin..

Anyway, there is plenty of people saying how Australia looked flat in the first half and I think this is a bit of a insult to the French..The Catalans players really put in and I think Bosc lifted players..They did alright and they need to continue to be supported as much as possible..

It may not happen for some time, but I hope that France reaches the heights of the 50s again where they will be competitive and if they ever tour Australia they will fill big stadiums..

With Toulouse in ESL it'll mean more Boscs and Duports and less Greenshields and Bentleys...

The Bentley brothers left New Zealand for France at the age of 4 if I remember correctly. They are not your average 'Granddad visited in 1978' kind of rent-an-Australasian.

another pissweak performance from australia...if i had taped this game i would have been fast forwarding through 90% of the game...

have the roos done any attacking training yet?

jennings may get the nod over hodges (although like ive said previosuly the ball hasnt gone out to the right in the first games) and i think hayne is lucky he a) is the dally m player of the year and b) theres only one specialist winger in the squad

c) sheens is still a f**kng moron for not tyring to play hayne into form

Well last weeks crowd of 12,500 in Toulouse is an indication of how the interest in the South is much better than Paris.

Paris wouldve been lucky to get 5,000, the only thing saving the crowd wouldve been the ex pat Aussies and Kiwis living in Paris. Yes they got a decent crowd earlier in the year, but England is virtually and hour train trip to Paris.

Shouldve played this game in Perpignan.

Why oh why did they play this in Paris.

The president of Fédération Française de Rugby à XIII (FFR), i.e. the French RL, Nicholas Larrat, wants to build awareness for the game from the south and promote the game in the capital city.

Staging the game there gave the opportunity for high profile French sports figures to attend the game such as:
* Bernard Laporte - former French Minister of Sport and coach of the French national RU team. Laporte was sitting in front of ARL CEO Geoff Carr.
* Max Guazzini - owner of Stade Francais RU club, the current home of Mark Gasnier.

It is a bit sad that Perpignan didn't get to host a test match this year. Paris hosted two,
* the midseason test at Stade Jean Bouin, home of Stade Francais RU - crowd 7,369
* test vs Kangaroos at Charlety (former home of PSG RL) - crowd 8,757 (or 6,234)

Toulouse hosted the game vs Kiwis.

Perpignan could have hosted and sold out a test match (maybe even a warm up against Wales) at Catalan Dragons' current home ground Gilbert Brutus (9000) or their former home ground/USAP RU ground Aime Giral (12,000).

Apparently it has... Justin Hodges just didn't do anything when he got the ball. Despite being a specialist right centre:

Game 1: Justin Hodges - 14 receives / 10 Runs
71 metres gained (avg. 7.1m per run)
0 tries
0 try assists
0 line breaks
2 tackle breaks

Game 2: Justin Hodges - 24 receives / 18 runs
128m gained (avg. 7.1m per run)
0 tries
0 try assists
0 linebreaks
8 tackle breaks

Game 3: Michael Jennings - 14 receives / 11 Runs
157 metres gained (avg. 14.24m per run)
3 tries
1 try assist
2 line breaks
8 tackle breaks

Michael Jennings didn't see much ball and was still able to look dangerous when he did. Despite being on the wrong side of the field and never having played with most of the team before... he linked up beautifully with Darren Lockyer just as Greg Inglis did last week. Why can't Hodges do that?

Unless Hodges is injured he will not and should not be dropped for Jennings. Sorry but Hodges is a much more complete centre than Jennings at this stage of thier careers... and that's from a NSW fan.

Comparing Jennings France stats against Hodges NZ and GB stats doesn't sway me.

totally agree! I was kinda drunk watching the game and even then I was impressed with jennings.

but then I wouldn't be surprised if hodges gets named anyway - those queenslanders own those positions. everyone just assumes they should have them, and I get why but it's stilla annoying.

So where is the benefit for RL there apart from a couple of union blokes looking at who they can possibly poach from either side?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bosc poached by French RU.
